I was just wondering what types of things yall remove before sending one to the crusher? Are they items to sell or keep for personal use? I know cats, o2 sensors, aluminum wheels, radiator, condenser, alternators, starters, and ac compressors. I work in a shop so fuses, bulbs, and common pigtails are kept. I feel like taking all the wire out of one is more trouble than its worth. Has anyone ever tried to see how much copper wire was in a car. Just curious.
I keep the airbags because I enjoy setting them off. Removing all wire as opposed to some is quite tedious.
Battery, Fuel , Easy cable (battery leads), Any parts that look newer than the car , radiator , Mirrors , locking wheel nuts (if key is there) , Seat covers , CAT ,If it looks good and clean it my sellQuote:

I just flip the plastic parts over my shoulder into the back seat
before i take a car to the crusher i take the air bags,radio,heat/ac controls,computer,headlights,tail lights,door mirrors and toss those on ebay.
i also take sheet metal pieces like fenders,doors,hood,trunk and sell on craigslist. i also cut off the cat,take out the battery,take off starter,alt,any aluminum engine parts,cut out the wiring and strip it. those pieces i toss in my reserve pile. my reserve pile i have certain garbage cans for certain things 1 can i have aluminum engine parts,2nd can electric motors,3rd can stripped copper wiring and the pile next to my garbage can are my cats. when cans get full i just go out and get another one.
I like to keep those air fresheners, car hang ups as a remembrance. In fact I have a collection.

fuel, motor oil, transmission fluid, transfer case oil, differential oil, antifreeze, washer fluid, freon, mercury switches and some ABS sensors, catalytic converters, batteries, air bags, aluminum and steel rims
optional
wiring harnesses
electric motors
some trim as its stainless
02 sensors
certain engine blocks or heads
ECU's / ECM's
Anything other than that would pertain to year make and model of the cars or rarity of the car.

Body panels on certain classics, as some are a PITA to find.

Transmissions
Even some suspension parts have a value.
As an automotive enthusiast, please don't add rarity tax to the items, as I can attest they won't sell or you're going to be insulted in a way that you're not accustom too.
Personal Note: Just as the ding dong in AZ was, that wanted 900.00 for bare doors for a 79' Impala 2 door coupe, before shipping. Waited a year, found another pair shipped from CA for 500.00 Now I just need to ind time to work on them and mount them to the car.
I take almost everything off if its in good shape. All body panels, wheels, gas tank, exhaust system, most of the interior, trans. The engine i save for last and let people take what they need off it. It saves me time and hassle of getting it myself. I charge a little more if i have to take it out myself though. I also base all of my prices off the biggest junkyard we have. If they charge $40 for a fender, then ill charge $35. On a $500 car, i can get nearly $1000 out of it as long as its a popular model
it depends on the car I pull certain air flow meters, fuel injectors, alt starter a.c. comp rack n pinion battery radiator spider injector ecm, tipm, abs module 04+ chevy truck, steering gears, calipers , rotors certain intakes and oil pans certain rear ends

Since most of the vehicles in my yard were and are mostly for tax free storage of other items I have taken the seats and interiors out of most of them years ago.
The vehicles with all power and such have a nice pile of wire that connects everything together. I enjoy taking things apart that I don't have to put back together.
I will keep slowly thinning out the vehicles as I sort through them and decide if they are worth using for storage or scrapping for good parts and the different metals.
I wondered many years ago WHY more people didn't GRAB when the getting of salvage items, vehicles and scrap was so easy that I just couldn't haul all the things I found and take on the many deals that were available as I was so busy working jobs that payed well.
I did get a few buildings and such to salvage for the materials as I had a use and market for the materials.
But then I'm not surprised as even to this day with my proven success in what I do and how I Live. Not many pay me much mind when I tell them what the future holds.
No I don't have a crystal ball or use magic and such. I just take my time as best as I can and I look at EVERYTHING that can be observed and understood.

History repeats it's self is the easiest answer of how I can see what lay ahead better then many others seem to be able to do or want to do.
I know that there are many thigs that I'm LAZY about. Such as learning how to use my digital camera. I'm interested in having a way to take good pictures of things I have, BUT I'm not interested enough in the use of cameras enough to want to learn how to use the camera. I really don't like cameras personally. I don't like having my picture taken as I enjoy my privacy as much as is reasonably possible.
I just might meet a few new friends and acquaintances through this forum in the proper time. If not, the great read and vast information is worth the effort and time. As I'm in no rush as I prefer the slower lane of Life where there is plenty of room for what smiles are made of...
My boss just informed me that he is buying an old truck (no idea how old or anything else about it) in about 3 weeks just to get the rear end out of it. He asked me if I wanted the rest for scrap. I don't even know if it is running and he will drive it here or what. Looks like my nephew and I will have some busy summer days ahead of us. I will be browsing this forum a little more closely once I know more about the truck in question.
My first question is once he removes the rear end how do I move the darn thing. I'll probably park it behind my brother in laws shop for the dismantling so the logical thing to do would be to have him deliver the thing right there and then remove the rear end. I'll have to discuss it more with him as time gets closer.
Drag it uon on a trailer on the springs with a winch or come along.
If you drive in the slow lane things are sure to pass you buy, but you can look at all the things as you drive by! Pictures are things of the past its all on a phone, hope you don't loose it. No more pictures of kids at Christmas or even school photos as no one ever prints them to save. Wedding Photo Album? DO they even do them? I guess when its there 50th Wedding Anniversary everyone will just take out there phones to show photos over the years! LOLQuote:
