There is an auction coming up soon in my area, there are pallets of used computers, (laptops, servers, desktops)
They are all complete, nothing has been removed.
Is there a rule of thumb for estimating the value of each system relative to it's scrap worth ?
Meaning if I can get 500 computers $X amount of money, can I make a profit scrapping the contents ? What price per system do I need to be at ?

Welcome ! A lot of folks do a quick introduction thread first time in.
You could check the archives here because the question has come up before.
You might check to see what the local scrapyard is buying at.
Some of the buyers here by complete systems so you could check the buyers and sellers section to see what they're offering.
A lot of what you get on your return depends on how much labor you put into it. I do a little buying from the local scrappers and try to hold the price consistent at 5.00$ / unit regardless of condition. It keeps it simple for them and they know what to expect for a return. A tower takes about 8 - 10 minutes to break down into it's component parts. From there, after breaking down the components, i might show a few dollars of net profit after expenses. It's not a big money thing.

I do this occasionally, and yeah, $5 a unit is a good UPPER limit. Make sure if you're bidding on multiple lots that you're figuring in drive time as if each individual lot was the only lot you'll end up winning. Learned that one the hard way and ended up driving 100 miles round trip for just a few switches. :(
