i don't take things apart piece by piece unless there is really a bunch of copper inside... usually just scrap washers & dryers whole... but i always crack open the dryers and feel around the bottom for coins... and found just over $14 in the last dryer i picked up the other day! so alwys remember to do that...
same day found a washer, kitchen sink, and exercise bike, all in a seperate locations!
was a good one.
yeha my last dryer i got $ 9.65 in in the bottom haha was a nice surprise.
There IS a lot of copper in washers and dryers. The wiring and motors give quite a bit.
Picking up my first dryer tomorrow. An old gas dryer. Happens to be my first decent call from craiglist ads too! This will be a cherry-popping good time! lol
Cool! And yes, I would be tearing them apart as well. That has to be a pretty heavy duty motor in a dryer. I have not seperated a washer or dryer yet, but I have torn into enough of them to fix. If you see one with a stainless drum, go nuts on it. The rest of it would be high quality stuff as well.Quote:

I have found if you take the dryer apart you can also get the coins that get hung up in the brackets. I will remove the drum by removing the top of the dryer. This allows me easy access to the bottom of the dryer, which also allows me to easily remove the motor, which sells for more than steel scrap price.Quote:
