I have scrap wire laying in my back yard from when my dad and I used to collect it and I can't figure out what kind of metal this wire is made from. It's silver in color and quite thick, The wires are heavy, probably from an industrial job.
Please get back to me ASAP!
It could be tin coated copper if its heavy, try cutting some or hit it with the grinder, if it is silver inside its more than likely aluminum.
If its copper colour than you've got number 2 copper.
A pic would be great.

Scrap Bare Aluminum Wire
Bare Aluminum Wire shall consist of clean aluminum wire free of iron or insulation.
Scrap Insulated Aluminum Wire
Insulated Aluminum Wire shall include plastic insulated aluminum wire, must be free of iron.
Scrap Supported Aluminum Cable
Supported Aluminum Cables shall include multi strand heavy gauge aluminum wire twisted around a single stand of steel wire.
Sounds like stranded aluminum.
Look for the letters "AL" on the insulation. That tells you it's aluminum wire.
