What would you pay???

Serious question time peeps. Need some feedback on something that I think all my friends in SMF land can help me with.

In the past 6 months or so, I've pretty much disappeared from the SMF and electronics recycling world in order to focus on my health. Over the course of the past 6 months, I've dropped 40+ pounds, and bought some older equipment to try to get in to world of canoe racing. I live in the starting town of one of the legs of the Triple Crown of Canoe racing, basically it's the biggest sport in town. Paddle Training is going well. We currently have about 35 hours in right now, with another 65 hours or so to go before the end of July. My best friend and I are toying with attempting the canoe marathon this year.

One of the cool things about the marathon is the team T-shirts. Chris and I met in the early 2000's at C.A Hanes Builders and begin watching and following the AuSable River Canoe Marathon. I thought it would be kind of a cool idea to go with a Builder Boys (our nickname from Hanes) theme for our T-shirts and then donating $5 from each T-shirt to a charity in Chuck Hanes memory (founder of C.A. Hanes that passed away in 2008). Chuck was/still is one my mentors, and I still find myself thinking "what would Chuck do" at times. We'd have to get with his sister and find out what charity to donate to, etc.

What's the proper dollar amount for a t shirt like this? What do you guys think is a fair price?

We have laid out our road map to 100 hours. At this point we are starting to think about seeking sponsors (most boats are covered with decals from front to back to try to offset the expenses of training, equipment, support staff, entry fees, etc) to figure out how to fund the rest of this adventure. We are currently training in a slower 24 year old Pro Am boat, but she's stable if nothing else, and we think we can get her down the river in under 19 hours. That said we are vastly underfunded to say the least, so if you know of anyone that would like to sponsor a couple of green newbies, send them my way lol.

T shirt pricing is largely dependant on the amount of colors and if you have stuff on the front and back, as well as quantity. Screen printing requires one template per color per side (unless you wanted the same design on both sides... i guess).

If you can stick to one or two colors, and get around 50-75 shirts. My guess you should be around the $5-7/shirt range depending on shirt quality and the place you are having do it. Most printers usually charge about $45 per set up template (think each color in the design on each side of the shirt) as well as the price for the shirt sizes. Make sure that gets factored in to the price of the shirt.

Requiring a lot of design costs more money too. Many places charge by the 1/4 hr. flat rate.

(Granted, I haven't ordered up any shirts in a few years)
