Hi all... So my dad was a plumber. Like I've probably said every time I write a topic... I just found like a 5 gallon bucket. Where I guess he would smelt down lead and pour it into these little tray things... I think I have close to 275lbs. I saw on kitco today leads trading at 0.95c is that accurate. If I bring all the lead there. I will get 275X.95cents??

Locally it sells for .50 a lb. Tried to sell on Craigslist but had no luck.
that's roughly what the factories pay for it.
you should get a little over .40 for it
You will make more selling it to someone who will re use it, either making bullets of fishing sinkers etc. Just have to find the people who are intrested in it. If you do take it to a yard call around and tell them the weight I am sure with this amount you could get a better price for it...
Thanks guys for the replies... I guess since I'm not in a rush to move anything. Just hanging on to it for a while is a ok Idea too.. The prices you guys say is close to steel prices isn't it?? So I guess that is where I get confused.. The prices on say kitco are not accurate for what s rap yards pay??

Kitco represents the market market = millions of tones (not tons)
next world market buyers/shippers 10 0f thousands of tones
below them you have district collection yards./and very few larger smelters. deal in thousands of tones
regional collection yards/ some smaller smelters deal in hundreds to thousands of tones
local yards deal in hundreds of tons (not tones)
local larger scrappers a few tons
smaller scrappers a ton or 2
hobby/part time scrappers a few pounds to hundreds.
Each takes apiece of that .95 for gross profit
the farther up the ladder the smaller %

Don't miss out on one of the important recommendations you have been given. If you have a lot of something tell the yard so you get a better price. By telling them you have hundreds of pounds of lead its lets the yard know you are aware you have a lot and expect to be paid at a higher rate.

Has anyone here ever thought about opening up a scrap yard. I wonder if they make a decent living? Basically they sit there all day waiting for scrappers? Then deal with the next person in the whole brake down you mentioned OD.
