What to do with the Keyboard shells

I have about a 100 or so Gateway Keyboards.

I am in the process of removing the wire, mylar, circuit board and a metal sheet from inside them. I think these can be sold.

I was wondering what to do with the leftover pile of plastic keyboard shells (top & bottom). Can I sell them? Can I throw them in the trash? Is there a place I am supposed to take them to, in order to dispose them off properly? Can someone please advice.

I have never done this before. So I am sorry if anything sounds foolish. Thanks.

I have had great success with recycling electorics at Best Buy. I've stripped 10 tv's this week and dropped off the shell/tube at my local store. Also dropped off computers, towers, and yes, keyboards. Never had a bit of hassle. The sticking point for you would be they only accept 3 items per day per customer. Check 'Best Buy recycling' for the details.

they are abs plastic, so check your community to see if they reycle that. I suppose you could try screwing the shell and take it to bese buy but that seems like a waste of time. search the threads here to see how others are disposing of plastic. .

Fill 12 blue recycle bins., Leave out Monday for city. Come home find 12 empty bins with red stickers saying non recycled materials. They must have tossed them in trash truck and put stickers for my warning.

I put mine in the recycle bin. I've put a LOT of abs plastic from electronics over the years and never had it rejected...

Same here but that day they did reject it. I seen one recycle driver pull it out of trash and take it.

I put them in the recycle bin and havent had an issue. Something else possibly to sell is the keys from the keyboards

Sadly plastic is one of those lower end recyclables. It is almost imposable for a small or medium plastic recycling co. to stay in business with out millions for equipment or a fairly large subsidy.

It's hard to ship plastic to a buyer at .03,.05 or .08 a lb when shipping is .18 to .27 a lb.

It is really funny ,I was just thinking yesterday about that shredder some one posted the other day, and why more building material is not made of indestructible , pest proof plastic .

I have a recycling place a few miles away. I save up a full truck load and take it in. They don't pay me anything, but I feel good about recycling it instead of tossing it to the landfill.

Because wood is cheaper. And it will be, until someone can successfully mass produce good quality plastic products for a cheaper than wood price. There could be some money to be made, if someone came up with a good business plan.

Just like with old tires, People are getting creative and coming up with unconventional uses for them. A company close to home makes a good living encasing old tires into concrete retaining wall bricks.

this sounds like another good option. even though my place is a few miles away, at least ill know i took care of it.

I've had "some" luck selling the keys on ebay to crafters.
