Wrong Turn, Right Direction

Yesterday I picked up the kids from the sitter's (whom I just helped move which I got about $100 of scrap out of :D) on my way home and leaving her street I made a right instead of a left by accident (not used to the new streets yet). So, as I'm trying to get back to the street I wanted, I see a TV at the curb up ahead, and conveniently the guy is just walking up to his door. I roll down the window and ask if its garbage "yes" can I take it? "yes"

Sweet!:lol: 27" crt (which I can scrap every pound of for $) for going the wrong (right) way!

PS didn't give him a card cause he was grumpy and looked at me funny.

lol i get the same crazy looks too lol but i do not blame them if a 6 foot something bearded hillbilly in a beat up ford explorer drives up like me asking for their trash i kind of expect it lol. good find though i love coneing acrosd money washing into the street

how do you make money on every part of the crt? I pull off the back, take out the wire, yolk, and boards, put the back on again and bring it for recycling. How do you make money on the tube and plastic? I done want to be missing out on some $.

I've mentioned it elsewhere in the forum in replies that I am apparently one of the chosen ones who gets to have a yard that will take all CRTs stripped or whole as "e-waste" (a very broad category I've found out). So I do the same, take back off, pull out goodies, put back on and bring all sorted to the yard. I usually wait until I have 2 or 3 stocked up but I don't have much space and since each emptied crt gets me $5 to $10 I don't let them sit for more than a week in the garage.

I'm in Canada and I think we have different rules up here for crt recycling. All I know is the yard must be making $ (very big yard, buys almost anything) and I'm leaving happy not having to get rid of 100s of pounds of plastic and leaded glass:)

yep 2 yards I know of pay at least 0.08lb there which there are 3 owned by the same company they take darn near everything

Wow, good for you guys. If that were the case here in Maryland, I'd be making a killing.

It's so competitive around here that I need them to make $. I get by on the little stuff trucks and trailers leave behind or don't see while searching for stoves and fridges. A tv will take up as much floor space in a truck bed as a fridge but I can't fit a fridge in my car's backseat.;(

I have one yard here that has a short list of e-waste prices, it lists hard drives, laptops, cell phones, and pc's and next to the price it says "must be complete" and then it lists stove coils, tv's/monitors and all other e-scrap but it does not say "must be complete" next to those items... I have yet to try and take in a gutted tv/monitor yet though, prob. will with my next one, before I would strip it, put the back on it and take it to the dump for free when i dropped my scrap tires for free there at the same time

I have also made a couple of wrong turns where it has been worth the mistake in finding some decent scrap along the way
