I have several friends with broken tig/mig welders of varying sizes and kinds... I was wondering if there is any valuable metals in the typical welder besides the obvious ground wires and plugs? Any ideas? Most of them will probably just get tossed as regular steel if I can't convince them to break them down
They should have a transformer in them, but i would see if they have a CL resale for parts first.Quote:

I scrapped a very old AC arc welder and it had 95lbs of copper. You will need to check the transformers to see if they are copper or Aluminum.

I'll scrap anything, but I agree with above on resale unless they are harbor freight stuff, just the mig gun on a miller or l-tec would go crazy $$. The roller system that feeds the wire would be expensive also. Anything to do with the argon delivery. I don't know anything about tig welding tho just mig

where are you located? if these are name brand machines (miller, lincoln electric, hobart) pm me with model numbers and pictures, if your close enough i would be interested in making an offer on the lot of them.
Careful careful some transformers are wound with aluminum. Even some old ones.Have scored on some copper also.
Ilovejunk- I'm in center east pennsylvania... most of the working parts are already out of them but ill ask them if there's anything else worth selling
