I realize "MLCC" is an SMD capacitor but I am getting two things confused here. MLCC stands for multi-layer ceramic capacitor right? Are monolithic capacitors even a real thing? Do monolithics have any scrap value??

"Both multilayer and monolithic capacitors have multiple layers. The main difference between the two is the manufacturing process. Monolithic capacitors have a paste of ceramic material applied between the conductive layers. After this paste is applied the capacitors are then baked. Multilayer capacitors have the ceramic material sprayed onto the conductive layers. This generally means that monolithic capacitors can't go as high in capacitance because the amount of layers is limited due to their manufacturing process."
So they must be both equally valuable for tantalum correct?
for electronic scrap and precious metal recovery MLCC (monolithic) i believe generally refers to the palladium capacitors that may also contain trace nickel and/or silver in the sodder depending on the year it was produced. Tantalum caps are generally just called Tantalum caps or Ta Caps. If im not mistaken, tantalum capacitors do not have a ceramic layer but an epoxy like coat. Anyone can correct me if they necessary as this is a tricky subject.
Looks good for the most part the MLCC (multi-layer ceramic chip) capacitors are most of the time Ni based with some containing Pd. monolithic I think is an"old"descriptions as the through hole type are now called MLC capacitors.Quote:
