Workspace Update needed!

Well its been 20 below lately and I havent been able to get at any of my scrap in the garage. Main reason is its too dang cold! Right now iv got a one car garage to work in. Nothing special. Some issues need to be fixed this spring though.

One being the garage has ONE outlet. And the circuit is shared with my upstairs bathroom, and living room. So if I pug more than a light and a heater in, it pops the breaker. So im either going to wire another outlet from a different circuit or just run an extention cord/power bar from a low use circuit.

Another is im DEFINATELY insulating before next winter and finding a better heat source. Its also getting a major clean out and make over. Theres some decent shelving in the back that im going to leave and a nice storage space in the rafters that the previous owner built. I have an old counter/cupboard unit thats at my parens that im going to use as my work bench. Perfect working height.

I'll grab some pics later for you guys, cause I know some of you will demand them! You know who you are LOL Any other tips or ideas are welcome!

I feel ya, it's warmed up to 15 here but everythings been covered in snow so I can't get to it, plus getting 1' tonight and more this weekend! I also have a 1 car garage but with 2 motorcycles there is only so much room. I would just make sure you keep the bench clean, so you can spread stuff out. I usually just end up taking things apart on the floor since my dad has so much stuff on it

storage space in the rafters implies an access to it, which is "up". Heat goes up too(rather rapidly) so I'd consider closing that off much as possible, unless you just want to heat the attic ; )
Next in importance to being sealed off, insulated, and heated, is a fan, to keep the heat moving around(instead of simply hovering ever upwards)
Shelving is always good to have. If you see stores remodeling or tossing some, grab it if you can. Those store shelves are usually built fairly rugged.

Yeah its wiide open going into he attic so im gonna seal that off, the storage space may be difficult to seal off though, it only covers half the garage. Youll see the pucs when I add em aha

A fan is a great idea, never thought of that. Iv seen shelving out at curbs lately but with no truck, its hard to grab em!

check em out, they might have wheels ; ) They usually break down easily too

old blankets work well in a pinch to close off areas you don't want to heat.

Plastic will seal a place off good too, just don't throw too many sparks at it. When it gets old it can flare up pretty quick

Harbor Freight sells Tarps pretty cheap too. Layer a couple of them to insulate better!

Awesome, never thought of any of this.

I am assuming that working at a mechanic shop gets you access to loads of used motor oil, plus the vehicles you scrap. I'd be finding a waste oil heater.
