Hey everyone, I'm new to SMF and just wanted to say hi and explain the problems with winter scrapping in Wisconsin. Whenever I'm working out in the garage my Jack & Coke freezes up on me and turns into a slushy. I've tried an insulated cup with a straw but then the straw just ices up. You southerners don't know how good you have it. Been a rough winter up here lol.
Some of the guys use Peppermint Schnapps while out on the lake fishing, don't think it freezes up, they keep it cold in a snowpile.
If it's trying to freeze then you have too much coke or not enough of the Jack.
I don't function well in the cold weather so unless it's some good money I'm picking up, I don't go.
My stuff at the farm under a ft. of snow will be there in the spring when it warms up.
Yeah skip the Coke, just take the Jack out with you, it'll help keep ya warm anyway!
I've tried skipping the Coke but then my productivity drops off. It's a catch-22.
I do not see the problem here. As a kid, I loved slushy's. As an adult, I still love slushy's, just a different flavor. P.S. Putting your beer in an snow bank will keep it from freezing when ice fishing.
I've been able to work through the winters and ram all the iron out of the frozen earth but yesterday was the first time I failed to get a few pieces. Even broke some iron and left it sticking in the ground. Hate to leave a mess. When anything sits a long time it sinks away with the freezing/thawing process and becomes underground. It didn't help that the grass was tall and I didn't see that upside down field cultivator that had the spades sticking up. That instant loud hissing sound is never a good sign. I carry a generator and air compressor and my handy John Deere starting fluid and the torch for the times that the tires come off the rims.
I noticed I even bent a tooth on the pallet fork. This is called Winter Olympics..!
You must not be putting enough Jack in your cup.
Both the Jack and the Coke is the problem...Jim Beam is the answer.
Bet there would be a market for that come summer. Jack & coke, wine, beer slushies.
I need to find an slushie machine.
use two cups one with those break and warm glove warmers inside the bottom of one cup put the other inside that and should not warm it enough to not be colder lol

If you guys need a warm adult beverage while scrapping in the cold, come to the hard coal region of Pa, we have an ancient secret drink lol. It's called boilo, look it up, usually made with grain alcohol or its homemade counter part. Some even make the apple pie version, which tastes amazing and goes down smooth, but it is all quite potent.
as much as i like drinking and breaking down, i really dont like lots of cut and smashed fingertips i get from drinking and breaking down

but you're right, cold takes a beating out of ya, I keep My warehouse at 50 tring to keep it anywarmer, gets expensive. but I would suggest getting a nipco heater and that should help keep you warm,, you can aim it any direction you want... keep your feet warm too.
You can use diesel fuel or kerosene, I buy My kerosene out of the gas station, about 5 bucks a gallon compare buying it out of a hardware store, 19 dollars for two gallons.
If you use disel, just get number 2 so it doesn't gel up. if you use one it jells up and gets really smelly... but kerosene or number 2 is the best to go, cheaper.. or maybe a propane, bottle with a heater but Don't know of any that blows the warm air around.
anyway.. keep up the work, and I just drink out of My keg, Goold ole Honeyweiss

i have a regular mr buddy, the single round one that uses a grill tank, also have a 30-60k btu dyna glo forced air propane heater, basically the same as a kerosene without the fumes.Picked it up at the local home depot for 100 bucks. Works great.
Every winter I think about buying a heater but then by mid January I get all my storm doors processed and move indoors to work on electronics and forget all about it till the next winter...
I had done the same for the past two years. But with the way my shop/grage space is set up i need a source of supplemental heat. Just gets too cold when its below 20 degrees. Had tried a 220good electric heater last year but it wasnt worth the extra electricity. Plus the propane is portable.
