two traliors, one man, big score

About 6 months ago I inquired about a couple mobil homes that are abandoned about 3 miles down the road from where I live. Yesterday the home owner called me and wanted me to come look at the job. One is a 1979 Allen and the other is 1981 luv homes. They both have been used as storage over the past 7 years. The '79 is 12X60 and the '81 is 14X70. They both have actual alum siding except for the the small one has tin on about 15' of one side (don't know why that is). There is a small porch on both, about 20X20 or maybe a little smaller. The lumber is ok, but not the best in the world. I can use it around the house for something. Some is treated, some is not. They both have double sided insulated metal for underpinning. The smaller one is pretty high off the ground on one end, so I think I can save some of the metal for personal use.
Going inside: I walked through and checked a few things out. Both have 200 amp square d breaker boxes, which I can deff. Sell. One of the furninces look in pretty good shape. landowner said it worked great a few years ago. He raised chickens and kept the chicks in that one with the heat on durning cold months. (Might need help checking the furnice over once I get it home). It is propane. I looked in thr breaker boxes and the older home is got mostly alum wire, bummer. About 30 gal or so hot water heater in one and looks like 10 gallon heater in the older one. Both has a lot of storage stuff in them from over the years. Hundreds of boxes of stuff. He said he wants to go through everything with me, don't think there is anything he needs, but just want to double check. He is going to have a roll off dumpster brought out to the site, and placed between them. I am going to have my little wagon parked right beside it. Anything I wanna keep from them going in it. What ever materials that I don't want, insulation scrap wood ect can go in dumpster. I know there is prob a ton or better scrap inside the mobil homes. Saw a couple old computer moniters, hopefully there is the computer to go with them. Saw the apple logo on one. Untelling what I might find. The only thing he wants is a section of roof about 20 foot long off of the 14 footer. After looking everything over he asked me what I am going charge. Normally, couple hundred for 2 mobil homes and all that other crap, but since I do not have to haul anything except what I want, and it is like 3 miles from house, I told him 50 dollars today and let me throw about half truck load trash in dumpster. He grinned ear to ear and asked me when I want to start sorting the boxes,bags inside. Told him I would give him a hollar next week. Ill try to get some pics before I start anything and ill take some of my findings. Also take some of mobil homes as they go down.

Sorry for writting a book, but I am SOOOOO excited to get this job. I have a buddy that I can get to help once I start tearing down. Should be a pretty penny. Ill try to keep everything from this job seperate from my other stuff so I can keep up with every penny made

Based on our conversations from others before you that have done teardowns, that should be a $500. job plus any scrap.
You going to be handling a lot of "trash".

Yeah. Like I said I usually charge about 200 on a mobil home, plus keep what I want. But like I also said, he has provided the roll off, and it is about 10' from each one of them. So anything I don't want can go in it. And I have a good way of tearing down a mobil home. Pretty quick. The hardest part will be the floor. I can have the sidding off of each of them in a day.(only a small portion is tin). I can get my truch all the way around both of them except for one corner of the small one. I can stand on the tailgate and reach the top to get the siding off. As I am pulling it off, I will have someone pulling screws, and cutting off caulk. He will stack it on the wagon. After all alum is off, I will start on the metal and then get the larger items, like sink (one stainless, other cast). Everything large that is going to scrapyard will go straight there. The smaller items like water fixtures, ceiling fans, light fixtures, and wireing (both copper and alum) will go home with me to be farther processed. Toliet. And glass and plastic and unusable wood will go into the dumpster as it comes off. The worst part will be all the stuff on the inside. The landowner and myself will quickly look through each box. Anything trash will go into dumpster. I have a 12 year old nephew that would love to carry stuff to dumpster for say 50 dollars a day

It shouldn't take no more than 2 days tops to completly clear out all "stuff". From the best I can tell, prob 1 truck loads of stuff to go to house to work on at a later date. And 1 truckload of metal for scrapyard. I think I made a good choice. I have never done anything this cheep before. I usually get about 200 for a trailor, but being this is pretty much a neighbor, I did it for little of nothing. I think I can clear about 6-7 hundred. Again, not haveing to haul any trash helps a lot, and the fact it is 5 mins from my house.
And I was completly broke, and needed diapers for my 2 year old as well as a few other things. I never ask to get paid up front, but this case that was part of the deal, and without it, I wouldn't have been able to get started till after I get paid on the third. This way I will start Monday. Prob be done in a week unless I run into trouble

Don't know how property is taxed where you are, but you might want to mention to the owner that he may need to let the assessor know these are gone so he doesn't continue to pay property taxes on them

There arnt a lot of money in these like a lot of people think.
I charge $1000 per trailer. That is with me hauling the junk away. We can do one in two days. Normally around $500-$800 in scrap.

Good luck with it MS, I won't rag you on what your charging, as it sounds to me you thought about it before tossing out the price. An only you know the bottom line for you an yours. Keep us updated on how it goes, an pictures to!

Sirscrapalot - Sometimes, profit isn't the only thing one wins when it comes to doing business. - I'll take credit, tho I have no clue.

I usually charge about 500. Sometimes more depending on where it is located, and how far I have to travel. I usually bring all the non treated/clean wood to my house to burn at night and have something to do while sittting around the bottle. I havenot done a mobil home in a lil over a year.
Just tring to help out a neighbor and make a few extra bucks in the process. Thanks everyone for ur imput, and concerns.
