Kinda disappointed, these were in one of the old warehouses at the facility. they have been scrounged for parts so mostly just MB, back plains, little bit of memory, finger cards and, CPUs. But all in all I shouldn't complain didn't expect any thing from them till next spring and we did get 4 fairly new IBMs that are in excellent shape and a small gaylord of never used hard drives.
Sounds like a good deal to me.

prices down and costs up, 3 pallets isnt what it used to be
seems like the last year or so ive had to run twice as much stuff to make the same money, im at the point now where im not buying anything below green motherboard in grade, and i am selling everything immediately rather than holding because gold is going down
Gold has dropped about to about 63% of what it was last year. my buyer is paying 62.5 of what he paid last year, very fair I believe. The problem is, my profit margin was about 20% higher last year.
As a third tier buyer I can't drop my price low enough to make up that 63% drop. In order to keep the customers I have I have to eat about 40 to 50% of that drop.
I'm looking for other ways to increase the bottom line.
Instead of sending 200 lbs at 40+ cents per LB. I'm holding and sending 600 t0 800 by freight for around 22 cents. Last week thanks to the forum I was able to save an extra $70 with a new freight service. Every little bit helps these days.
with desktops being phased out of existance, im wondering what our industry is gonna look like in another 10 years, instead of getting 3 pallets of towers we will get boxes of tablets and smart phones, all the bulk will be gone

I agree overall.........I see less and less of the older 386-486 computers and get alot of p4 computers for scrap anymore......I usually don't resell anything less than dual core or high end hyperthreaded because they won't handle windows 7Quote:

Scrapping was profitable before gold went through the roof, and it will be profitable after it drops back down. The issue is most of the middle men will be out of business and local laws will dictate that all escrap has to be recycled properly (as in sent to the mayors cousin who own the only legal recycling facility in town and he doesn't pay for scrap).
The supply of older systems that have gold content and multiple boards is probably drying up fast. Most people use virtual servers anymore (many servers running on one fast machine) so the volume will be down quite a bit there was well. People switched from desktop to laptops a decade ago, and there isn't much in them (and few hold up well to be refurbished either).
Unless people are bringing you metal I don't see recycling steel as being that profitable for the part timer.
Are we running out of any rare earth metals that would make grinding up old LCD panels worth money (for example)?
