I was wondering if anyone had any experience with buying anything from government liquidation (govliquidation {can't post links yet :( })? 2000lbs of brass shells, even if I have to wash it, is quite a pretty penny. It almost seems...too easy..? Anyway, if anyone has any experience some warnings (or encouragement) would be great! If not, perhaps it is one of us should give it a try :D
I haven't bought anything yet, but did go to look at some lots of scrap aluminum. Be sure to read the fine print in the auctions as each location has its own unique set of rules. The one I went to had no loading equipment provided so you must bring something to load with. They also did not allow hand loading. For me, it was too much trouble to get a loader there for the amount of scrap I would get. Another thing to watch for is the requirement on many items to be destroyed before loading, so you have to work on the scrap at their facility. If you get all the information and know what you're required to do, you can make a better decision about how much you can pay. When you get that done, you really could get some great deals.
Here in Hawaii, the Government Liquidation is pretty much localized (and not too many buyers here). Especially with the brass casings (which need an end-user-certificate which bars international bidders). So I assume as long as I set the EUC as the local scrapyard it'll be okay? (I say scrapyard because I don't think selling to a reloader is a suitable EUC)
Much of the brass gets reloaded. I would do the research but on the surface reloading would be a perfect way to recycle the brass. Lots of used brass is sold on the internet so if you can get this figured out it might be a good way to make some money. Mike.

I've read some of them make you disfigure the casings before you remove, making them non reloadable.
As far as scrapping goes, some places won't take them unless you remove the primers, best to check with your LSY first.
I just read into this a bit as I was cleaning out my old desk and found some.
Usually the brass that must be destroyed is anything larger than .50 cal. Be prepared though to pay way over scrap value since you are in competiton with reloaders, resalers and scrap yards
