another what the heck are these thread.

Unsure of the following in pictures.

Thought that the Orange item might be a huge tantalum capacitor? It has a +/- with a C and a kv on it

The shiny thing looks like another cap, but not sure on size.

The squid looks like yet another cap, but it has a Texas instrument symbol on it.

No idea on the black thing, other than it feels like aluminum? (tie fighter, spelling?)

Any of these have any value? Confirmation on my suspicions?


The Orange item came from an oscilloscope, while the rest came from old metrology equipment (ran on tubes lol)

Don't know the answer to your question. I do know that even broken oscilloscopes sell for far above scrap on ebay. Mike

I didn't want to mess with eBay. I was curious how they worked too.

I didn't feel like testing it, because if it worked, I'd hoard it away and use it maybe one time a year.

The orange thingie is a monolithic cap. 5k voltage.
Black and silver thingie's - don't know, really old school.
The round silver thingie- old transistor, might have gold plated legs, check under the heat shrink.

Is a monolithic cap worth anything? Does that one have the tantalum in it?

One of our buyers just posted the pic's in their thread of ones with Tantalum.

An another buyer of them, has several on his website I believe still.

I think the black thing you are holding in the third photo is called a "selenium rectifier". They used to use them for converting AC to DC back in the age of tubes and early electronics. I used to see them on old motorcycles, too. Probably not much scrap value.

The flat stainless device with the name "Siemens" on it is likely another type of bridge rectifier since it has 4 terminals and two show a kind of universal AC symbol "~" and the other two show a "+" and "-".

I think Mech has it nailed...if the old transistor has any gold on it, it's probably the only item worth anything in the lot.

Now that I think about it, the Siemens part came out of a rectifier :lol:, now the question is, was it worth removing, or does it go in the shred pile...

The Siemens rectifiers value is probably the metal case--you might be lucky and it could be stainless...is it magnetic?
