Hi guys, I regularly come across a few abandoned crt tvs in my town. I take em for the copper mostly but I would like to know a few things:
- are the circuit boards worth anything? Do I have to clean them before selling them?
- the aluminium wires, should I keep them?
- should I keep the cast iron found in the crts too?
- the plastic: to keep it or to throw it away?
I think its Mech who made a great thread all about tearing down CRTs. All of your questions are answered there.

Only thing I am not sure, what about the circuit boards? Are they valuable? Or should I throw them away?
Steps for handling CRTs:
1. Curse at it.
2. Leave it where it sits.
3. If you skipped step 2, curse at it again, cut the cord and move on to better things.
This is just how I handle these. Some people may have other ways of dealing with them :)
To answer your questions,
1. Yes. Maybe - depends on who's buying.

4. Throw away, or take to someplace that can recycle it.
I take all the copper off the boards and then throw em in a bin for the day someone up here buys them for more than shred. Or if i have enough to ship a pallet if thats even worth it. Havent looked into it much.
Yes like all these guys said. It also depends on what you can get for the boards from your local buyer. Save up a few and shop them around to your buyers and the answer will be clear. On the Al wire you spoke of be certain it is in fact Al not tinned Cu wire. Best of luck, Mike.

Our guys get anywhere from .05 to .20 for low grade boards. That's if you can get someone to buy them. I sell mine for .18 lb after I pull the goodies off.
The only alum. I know of might be a degaussing wire once in a while, The one down near the tube is tinned copper.

depending on how much your time is worth to you, there is copper, aluminum, and copper bearing items that sell as motors on them.
Heck even if you can't find a local buyer, a couple minutes yanking off a few CBMs, the flyback, an few other items, an you just made more then .28lb.
Yard price for shred - 0.9
Yard price for CBM - .25
yard price for Alum - .50
total - - .84
Your yard may pay more or less of course for things. Mine pays decent I think for the parts I remove. So I continue to remove them from low grades, once that's done in to shred it goes. An it takes all of a couple minutes to hit a board for the good stuff. A pair of channel locks will make it go even faster. Nice thing about stripping low grade..dun matter if ya break it!
This is how it works for me, so maybe it's a good thing I don't have a local buyer..lol. They'd likely want me to keep all the crap on it. In the past I've said I wanted a local buyer for them. I've changed my mind now that i actually broke it down an looked it over, vs what I get total from my yard, on a low grade.

There is obvious value to all of the TV 's a lot depends on the area you live . I have done net searches that there are companies that pay for the plastic from tv's .1 to .5 per pound if clean. Depending on that creates the ability to sell all . Its easy to sell copper , copper wire and aluminum. The boards have value at the very least as mix. Metal in side the tube could add up but what of all the lead glass. Gonna take lots of research to sell all.
