Workin a deal, Buyin from the scrap yard

Been in contact today with my local yard. Shot an offer his way to buy complete towers. He seems to be interested but tells me he sometimes has to pay .20 per tower.
He says that they ship 10k lbs bi weekly of misc e waste. A chunk of is towers so this is a great source of material but at any more than .20 per pound I dont think I would be able to make much. So I guess my question is, with that quantity would I be able to make decent profit? Here in canada we just recently found a buyer. Also Im used to a much smaller scale and wouldnt be able to work with .20

Iv been advertising locally for a few months now at 4 bucks a piece, no dice. Not one pick up. Few calls but apparently 4 bucks isnt enough. This is why im lookin at other ways to gather puters.

He only sometimes pays .20 if they are complete lol so this guy kinda has an idea what e waste is worth but doesnt break em down.

I was first wondering if that would even be taken as ethical, but it's no different than buying a car and pulling the cat, radiator etc.
I also was thinking he was just tossing it all in the same pile with stereos, radios etc

Yeah i wouldnt be able to do that to the guy anyway aha we have a decent relationship with them so i dont wanna be a jerk. And nah he puts them aside. Im just gonba tell him my range is .15-20 per pound. If he can work sonething out with that then beauties. If not, back to the drawing board.

Very entrepreneurial of you Jord. I am glad to have finally found a buyer 1 1/2 hour away from me. Thinking of doing a run before x-mas. If I do, I'll let you know how it goes.

Just emailed him and made my case lol said all the non ferrous material I pulk would be brought back to fmr to be sold. So they are getting a small profit for the towers and free labour to remove the non ferrous (or at the cost of non ferrous bought back from me)

Hope we can work something out lol would be a huge boost for me and would help me move up a notch.

I will let you know how it goes and yeah let me know how that run goes. Where abouts is he? May be worth my while to make a run instead of shipping.

May be cheaper for me to get a train ticket out there! 29 bucks. Dont think they would be too happy if I arrived with boxes of circuit boards though ahahah

Jord0, if you paid the yard a nickle more than they pay then you would have roughly 5.00 in each one. Weren't you commenting in another posting about advertising at 5.00 per? Why would this be any different?? If someone pulls some parts out of the computers then you'll pay less cause it weighs less. Might be a better way than me paying a straight 4 or 5 per computer.

Mech has a very good point ^ . im actually surprised the yard is letting these go at the same price they pay . that's unheard of.

He doesnt always pay .20 per. Hes just letting me know that sometimes he has to pay that much. My guess is he negotiates with people with some stuff. On his site, ins wire is prices as "negotiable" so maybe thats the reason he sometimes pays .20 per pound.

I have been thinking it over in my head all night lol I told him I could do .14-.20 and he said he would check his stock pile tomorrow and see if he can help me out.

As for me payin them .25 per pound, would that not put me well over 5 bucks per tower? I always thought they weighed more than 20 pounds on average.

Im no expert in Ewaste. but I think the weight of the case and body depends on how old they are. sorry Jord0690 I strip extension cords for a living lol

Yeah im sure the older ones have alot more steel to em. But i always thought they where 25-30 pounds, the ones iv had feel like that anyways ha

I just confirmed yesterday that a buyer up here is paying 0.70/lb for electronics and all scrap is staying in the US.

If all of it is being scrapped, I would think that is hard to do. However it can average out to profit if reselling parts or complete items.

Alright so apparently they just shipped a pallet out and dont have much right now but will contact me once they have another. Really happy that this looks like its working out.

scrap yards are great to deal with. a large diverse flow of material to be had. beats going to search for the stuff

Yeah for sure, just gotta find ones that are willing to work with you. Im going to contact another family run yard about 30-40kms away and see if I can get something goin with them as well.

Never thought id be much of a business man but this stuff has been pretty exciting for me. The searching, negotiations, etc. I really enjoy the hunts for the deals. Kinda reminds me of a show we got up here called "The Liquidator" based out of vancouver. The friggen guy is buying a deal one one phone and selling it to someone on the other phone at the same time. Doesnt even have to see the stuff he buys. He Buys it and sends the truck right to the guy that ends up buying off him. The guys good lol
