Boilers. Breaking them down.

Are these easy to dismantle. I have a lady at work that has one and I don't expect her to help get it out being 50 years old. I may have to do this job alone, but if I can take it apart, that will make it much easier.

Depends on how old it is. If it's an old cast iron model, make sure you have a hammer and plenty of wrenchs you don't mind beating on. If it's a newer mini boiler you csn probaly get it out with a dolly.

Not sure about taking them apart, but I think they're full of copper. That's why my father's boss always takes them and I never get them lol:p

Ok if its too large to take out whole, then they need to be taken apart. Take the thin sheeting "sleeve" off the outside, then cut the long bolts "straps" that hold the whole thing together, i do it with a sawzall..you will need a lump hammer, and a few chizels to seperate each section. once you get one section off its easy from there.. I wana say you will spend more time taking off the outer layer to get to the cast then you will actually taking it apart. 1 thing thats important, if its gas burning, or oil.. if its oil prepare for a huuge mess! And as for the copper coil that some of them have, the best way to know if it has 1, b4 taking it apart.. on 1 of the corners. theres like a circle or a square peice, its not cast.. if there a copper coil inside, this peice will have 2 brass fittings, an in and an out.. if there 2 then you know theres a coil inside. hope that helped

Older, bigger model.. About 6ft tall. Not sure about the width, but I will find out when I go in to get it.

i was working with my dad a few years ago, hes is a plumber i guess u could call him an amatuer scrapper we just took in the whole boiler along with all the radiatiors as cast iron im not sure what he might have removed from it but i know he did not break anything down

Yea Just remove the sheet metal which is easy and beat it apart.

One word to think about with boilers: Asbestos.
