Let me begin with how much I enjoy the forum and the great info and knowledge learned from reading the members posts.
My question
Are transformers and electric motors classed together as one or should they be seperated.

Check with your scrap yard. One I go to told me they wouldn't even take a transformer.
It's entirely up to the discretion of the yards. Every yard I have been too will take a transformer at motor price. I know some yards call this "copper breakage" because of the high copper concentration of other types of mechanisms other than motors.Quote:

Really, if you can find something that has over 20% copper by weight, then you *should* be able to sell it at motor price.
I take the time and clean all motors and transformers. In a vise I take grinder with cutoff wheel and slice threw one side of transformer windings.
Flip it over and put back in vise and pry out wire. The motors can be opened up, remove the core and also put in vise. With a long 24 tooth per inch
sawzall blade I cut one end off then flip and pry out the easy money! The more you do the faster you get!
