Scrapping motors
I have an old freight elevator that I am about to bring to the scrap yard.
It has a three phase motor on it.
I was going to pull it off and scrap it all by itself.
What do I to with the motor ? Do I rip it apart and pull out the copper or what ?
Thank you in advance for the reply!

Motors can be broken down or sold whole.

Break down the copper ones and sell the alum wound motors whole

The wire in those big old motors is pretty tough to remove. You might luck out, but most of the motors I've seen have the wire so glued down and embedded in a kind of varnish that it is a losing battle to remove. You will get more than steel value with the motor separate as "motors".
On a few big motors, I've been able to get the ends of the copper windings off but that's about it.
