Tool kit for computer tear down

I went looking specifically for a Torx bit to fit the screws on Hard Drives. Figured out they're actually T8 (not T10 as someone said). As every common set starts with T10 and goes up, I was having quite a time. Started at Radio Shack and got a cheap set of Trox bits but at least I had a T8, even if it didn't fit my cordless drill, which I was hoping for. The guy at Radio hack suggested Lowe's so off I went. No luck there. Decided to try Best Buy. Couldn't get anybody to wait on me so started to leave. Young girl asked if she could help me. Told her I was looking for a Torx set that included a T8. She got a "deer in the headlights" look so I tried explaining what it was. She turned over to a couple guys so told them what I was looking for "to tear apart hard drives". He asked "why do you want to do that?" "cause that's what I do". Another guy got in on it and said "Sell him one of those computer repair tool kits". When he went and brought it out, it was EXACTLY what I wanted-

At $29.99, it might seem a little pricy, but there's everything you're going to need. Even an IC chip extracting tool. And they fit my Milwaukee cordless drill so I wont kill my wrists.

nice to have that T8 on your drill. my hands do get quite tired with all my miniature plastic handled screw drivers and their tiny little bits...

I got my backups at Autozone..LOL. Didn't feel like driving to Lowes or Home Depot, or ACE, an it was within walking distance. 7.99 later I got a nice back up set if I ever lose my current ones.

I use a lot of weird size bits on electronics. For example the screws on the side of the white 75 pound emacs are a hex 2.5. I have found the best bits for me come off of the snap-on truck. I know they are expensive, but they last a long time, even in the small sizes. I put them all in a 20V DeWalt impact driver. We hammer these little fellas. The tool truck has always made good with me on returns if I mess them up.

I find this is a great set for computers hard drives.roms and floppys. all bits fit a standard drill

I got a prokits 33 piece screwdriver set has T4-T20, plus other small Phillips, standard, allen and 5 and 6mm sockets.

The smallest torx set i could find was at harbor freight & walmart. They are ($7), but strip easy. Go slow if using in a drill. The only orher place i could find small torx bits was a specialty local tool store in derby, ks called the big tool store. They sale quality torx bits and you can buy them individually ($2.50 each) instead of a whole kit.

I paid $5 ea for a #8,6 and a cool little #5 branded Benchmark, at a Home Hardware up here in Canuk land. :) Can't work without them now. lol

To keep from stripping - Set the bit squarely in the screw. Turn the drill by hand to break the screw loose. Continue as usual. Took me a few stripped bits & screws and several choice words till I figured out to just do this automatically.

I got good quality regular individual driver tips from a hardware store here for .99 each, got a T6 to a T10 for $5. Needed a T20 security tip the other day and they had it too but was 1.99
I bought a couple of those cheap sets from Home Depot at about $5 set. Neither set had all I needed, and one set won't even fit a regular driver
