Well great morning, went to church,cleaned some on the yard, then went to help my dad with his boat dock,took my machete,it was looking like a floating jungle, was going great up till the moment i angered the yellow jackets. got me 5 or 6 times on my calf a couple more on my arm. so there both kinda swollen, and quite painful. and its my last day of vacation,back to the grind tomorrow. Ya'll be safe
As soon as you get stung go get a tomato leaf and crush it up and rub the juice right on the sting and swollen area.
The relief should be instant. will take the pain and swelling away,,,
Learned that from my dad when I was a young teenager. Picked up a cement block and disturbed a
mud dauber nest.
I didn't know those sting! I've never heard of anyone getting stung by one until now.Quote:

down here they sting by the hundreds, and people have been killed by them. they are the worst I have ever been stung by. the live in huge hives ,usually under ground, I have seen hives fill an abandon car in one season.

JFYI. Clove oil (eugenol) is a bee/wasp attractant, cinnamon leaf oil also has lots of eugenol in it too.
After decades of being the only one stung in a group of people, I found this out. My choice of deodorant (Rapport) contained lots of a clove oil smell..........
Benedryl also works good to relieve pain caused by them dang gone pests !

Here's another old time way to combat the stings;

finally got to sleep sometime between 2 and 3 this morn, my calf got hard as a brick, kept hurting,the arm did ease up fairly soon. i ended up soaking in the tub with some real hot water, got enough relief to get some sleep.

Be careful with those things.
Kid hit a nest of them last year with the mower. 1/2 hr he started breaking out in hives, week of steroid meds and has an epi pen to carry now.
