2 weeks ago I bought a Gaylord from a customer for $2.50 per lb.
3 days ago I bought another for $2 per lb from the same yard, did't get a lot of reaction or residence.
a month ago I bought from another yard for $2 per # .
today I payed $1.58 to that yard. the disappointment was there but expected it seemed.
where is the tipping point? Is there one ?
As long as you are paying less accordingly, you should be ok. The real issue is at what point does the scrap yard you buy from decide it isn't worth it to deal with e scrap anymore.

the yards that sell to me that buy close to shred price will probably continue to sell to me the first tier buyers who sell to me are probably close to the tipping point.
those who are paying for computers will also probably fall by the way side. I have completely stopped paying by the piece and now only buy by the #.
I just analyzed a dell 3000 2 ram, 4 finger boards, Pentium 4. and hard drive mother board. at the price Im getting with Gaylord shipment and pricing. the value was $7.32
I think its going to take a bigger slump than this for the larger yards to get out of it. I have a local yard that pays decent on motherboards, usually around 3.00 per pound. They even let me put the "Chinese" ones in there as long as there is a good mix of green ones. The scale guy told me the other day that they pay the general public 1.00 per pound. At that price they are still doing pretty good.

The yard i go to takes EVERYTHING. I've never taken anything there they didn't take. They even take Coax, but they only pay $.05 for it. The down sides to them taking everything seems to be that they don't differentiate much between different types of material. Electric fans from power supplies and cpu's, pay the same as a Transformer, or any other electric motor for that matter $0.17 even whole ceiling fans. They have different types of Al, but they all pay $0.50 so there is no point separating it.
Went a little off topic, my point is if the yard can make money buying material why would they ever stop? They lower their prices accordingly. Doesn't ever seem to deter people from bringing in their material. So as long as you pay more than they paid, and they lower their prices when the market calls for it, they shouldn't cut off e-waste.
