It's pool heater season again for us. Each pool heater is worth $75 some $120 each.

Not alot of scrappers know this but there's 15 to 20 lbs of #2 copper in a pool heater. The odd one will have 20lbs brass manifolds but most are cast.
Plus the scrap tin.
They come apart really easy with a screw gun.
Plus the pool guys will have pool pumps which also nets $10 in copper. What comes apart easily also.
Go out and search out pool guys and get their pool heaters.

Good thing about pool pump motor 90% of them are copper windings not alum.

sweet, are the fins on that copper or just the tubes? , im just not seeing the 15-20 pounds of copper there

ive seen alot of older car radiators that are copper tubes with brass fins, they have transitioned to copper with aluminum fins to cut costs

The fins are copper also. It would be #1 copper but the fins are soldered on. So it's #2 copper.

Fins are all copper

thats what i was thinking, they would have to be to have that much weight

Just to let you guys know if you see a pool heater hooked up to a houses central air system make sure to check the heating coil they could be titanium on some units. good luck

Just got my first pool heater today, and you're right, it does come apart pretty darn easily considering how big & HEAVY it is.

One question, though: What material is the insulating stuff made of? It almost felt like wet paper...

Most newer units (10-20 years old) use some sort of fiberglass or ceramic insulation. I've taken apart a lot of older equipment from the 70's and found them to be chock full of asbestos. So be careful. Regardless, I like to hose everything down with water first, it helps keep the fibers from becoming airborne. A dust mask is also a must.
