So my brother decided to junk his Nissan truck without consulting me. I don't know anything about the truck except that it - 1. was green 2. didn't run and 3. was roughly the size of an S10. He got $125.00 bucks.
I'm very ignorant about these things but I thought that the cat might be worth at least that much.
Did he get ripped?
Weight alone should have brought 250-300 bucks...then the cat, battery, aluminum wheels?, wire, alternator, radiator etc...

Just last summer, I took my little Nissan Sentra in to the scrapyard and just straight-up scrapped the whole thing. Didn't pull a single thing off it, didn't load it with shred... I got $325 for it. This was before I started to learn a bit about scrapping, and what I should have done to get a few more bucks out of it.
I kind of did the same thing with a Sable that quit running and had been sitting at my friends house for almost a year.
I arranged for a roll=off to come pick it up and deliver it straight to the scrapyard, so didn't want to pay extra just so I could take
extra pieces off of it. But I did get 370. for it.
im going to approach this as a buyer, id offer 200 to 250 depending on the drive, then explain to them the truck has to be complete to get that price and that includes a title, key, and a battery. $25 deduction apiece for all of the above. I also pay more than anyone in my area for junk cars, most of my competition starts at 100 and makes deductions. so as a seller not willing to scrap the car and selling it to someone else to breakdown 125 isn't a bad offer but my 200 woulda been better. hope this helps
also on the breaking down of cars stated above, there is a yard 2 hours from here in TN when I was getting 240 a ton or 12cents a lb they were paying 340 a ton or 17 cents a lb if you would take the car whole including the converter, ive never been as its to far for me to go hauling one car at a time. im not sure what they pay now

If he "sold" it and was happy he didn't get screwed. There's always a tradeoff when cash is involved. Cheap isn't always the best option and high cash isn't good either. People can offer high prices for cars all day long, but watch behind the scenes and see what happens. Some of that is coming out now, you'll see a common theme here.
