i have a question

we got the threads on what you drive now and what you scrap in, I found the Taurus sho commericals a minute ago on the converter thread, I got to looking for commercials on my first car. it was a Plymouth turismo and 84 model I think, other variations were a two do horizon, Omni, charger, and a duster all with the same body style. it burnt up in the driveway one night and my next car was a Chrysler laser the same as a dodge Daytona. those that care and can find the time see if you can find the commercial to your first car, it will bring back some memories. ive got a dodge Daytona in the yard now im going to get running when I get a chance

Ah, the memories. Back in the 80's three college buddies and I came back from a trip to Pensacola FL (over 2 hour drive) with a full sized aluminum ROAD CLOSED sign that we had to hold over our heads in a Laser because it took up the entire ceiling space.

I had a question once. Can't remember now what it was. My first car was a motorcycle, haha! Then I bought a 65 Biscayne, straight 230, 6 cyl, for 35 bux! From an uncle, who came by the house(one that my brother and I shared in Dallas) one night (half drunk) and wanted $25 to settle up, which I paid(possibly with a little help from my bro)but i was barely 16. Wasn't a half bad deal, managed to get me. bro, a close cuz, and another friend to a concert at gatlin springs, in Austin, 4 days of non stop party(rain included, drugs optional, but mostly accepted ; ) Was a wonder we all got home. Actually, the cousins friend got left at a station in Austin. The car got left with my bro when I took off with another uncles wife to Florida(yeah, he was sittin there waitin on us, her and his son) haha, He'd asked me to bring em there ; ) Last I heard of the car? My bro left it in some wet cement on some road construction somewhere. Oh well, My NEXT car was a 64 Impala, with a 283! :) $150 for that one, but i was nearly 18 by then, and knew how to PUNCH it! haha ;)

The Plymouth Horizon looks like a Nissan Leopard a bit, probably the mid 80's style. Firebird, Deloren etc.

ahhh, we're looking for commercials eh? sorry, i thought it was first cars. You Don't even want to know the first ad I saw of my earliest cars. It was a 70 Olds 98, with a 455 rocket. Caught a glimpse of it in an old magazine while sittin in a slight detention somewhere ; )

Ahh this old girl used to get me all the ladies 450 ci wildcat motor.

I've got on of those horizons sitting out front of my Dads old place, it was his. From the VIN it's an 85. He used it to take one of my nieces to McDonalds in it, and probly lots of other places. My Mom left him about 20 years ago, and he was kinda lonely here, so the girl was pretty much his world then. He got to where he couldn't even remember his own name, probly a blessing in disquise, and my sister took him to stay at her house, but he finally got too much for her to keep up with, and she had to put him in a home that could watch him 24/7. All the while I was trying to break free in TN and get on home. I'd have to drive 60 miles by then, to see him, but still made it over there 2 or 3 times a week. He was happy there, and it didn't matter who you were, he was happy to see ya. I'd sign him out and take him to my sisters house usually, he never drank a lot, but he enjoyed a cold beer, which I'd always have him one or two, he'd usually stop after the first one, and be ready to go back to "that place". Before he died, his last Fathers Day, I brought him home, to the house he'd built, and the farm he loved, but he didn't remember it. He kept asking, "I lived here?", or, "I built this house?". As we were getting ready to go, and walked out by his old trailer, with that horizon sitting out beside it, he said "I know that car, that's my car". In his waning years that car held some of his only happy memories, taking that little girl to church, or to mcdonalds, and it was the only thing he remembered

thanks for the pics & posts for those old Iacocca cars. I worked days as a car salesman in 1985 while working on my degree at night school. Sold a bucket load of those Horizons, quite a few Lasers, and a few Turismos in six mos. at a Chrysler store. The Shelby thing was called the Omni GLH in 85 & 86, I think they "updated" it to GLHS after that. The Turismo had some resemblance to the nissan Leopard. I think there was a brief period of time that the Turismo was called the 2-door Horizon (when it first came out) so that may be part of the confusion.

The Omni/Horizon thing was a great little car for the money, had the 2.2 and was extremely reliable and minimal maintenance for the first 100k. After 100 on the clock they kind of gave out. Funny thing is the door handle mechanisms would wear out and you see lots of Horizon owners crawling through the hatch to get in the car.

The Laser was a very sexy car back in the day. The turbo version had a nice bit of giddyup.

Haha, my Dad's is like that, not a door handle on it! Haha, i was talking to the postman one day, who told me he'd seen dad crawl through the back hatch to get in it. That was the only way I could get in it too.

The GLHS was the intercooled version of the GLH. Shelby said it was the funnest car he ever built.

said it before i"ll say it again now i know why cory is a scrapper he learned to hate cars early

Yall seem to know the horizons well, how about popping the hood?? The hood latch seems to be like the door handles, broke. How can you pop it to get under there? I'd like to get under there without tearing anything up, and see if there's enough of a motor left to work on.

I would start by removing the lever inside the car and see if any way to grab on to the cable and pull it. good luck!

cool list! despite my Volvo & Chrysler sales experience, I'm a Ford guy at heart...and it looks like things seemed to go downhill after you switched to GM. Just sayin'. ; )
