if i have a good day i usually throw em like 5 - 10 bucks ... today i got away with what i feel was a lil extra by not having to clean to commerical dishwashers .. already cleaned 4 units only had 2 left and they let me turn them in as dirty stainless with an upgrade ... 500 lbs at .30 cent a pounds ... i felt it was only fair to give em a few bucks .. .plus my drill battery was going low
I "tip" in the same form as others here, treats like food and hot/cold drinks, never alcohol other than at Christmas or special occasions like a wedding. The closest I come to giving cash is gift cards. You can sorta personalize those, which people enjoy. Someone who always drinks coffee? Easy, a Timmy's card. Someone with small kids? McD's. Or a nicer restaurant, whatever. Find out what people enjoy and use that.
It's been my experience that many bosses don't like you giving their staff cash, they see it as bribery (even if you don't intend it that way). I've never had anyone upset by giving out gift cards.

i only use schnitzer - rancho - sims - rancho ... and the yard on power inn and the one in elk grove off waterman ... only yards paying anything
I found one place paying well for #2 insulated. DC Metals $1.20/lb over 75lbs...all their other non-ferrous not so good though.
You would have to be crazy to own a yard and allow people to "tip" your guys at the scale. How long do you think it would take for someone to make a deal where they get a percentage of any material they weigh "heavy"?Quote:

My yard doesn't allow tipping in any way, shape, or form. They do take very good care of their employees though.
Reason for this, since I been going there, they have had over 15 different girls and guys in the scale house. The girl they have now, has been there for about 2 years. The rest got a little money hungry and stole.
Camera's and tips = someone getting in trouble. Like others I stick to food as a tip.
Yes I tip. Not everyone all the time. When its deserved.
The yard I deal with is a small mom and pop with 4 employees and it's all family so tips are greatly appreciated and welcomed
there was a guy at a local yard that would add some weight to u in exchange for a cut.
That ain't right at all. Adding weight equates to theft to me or at the very least being very dishonest
I agree with the no cash changing hands rule. gift cards are even iffy. I would stick with food and drinks.
I thought it was strange. But that was years before i started scrapping. Pending on what vehicle/equipment(ex:truck and trailer) you took he would add an extra ton or more. It was a shady yard that i dont go to because i would see people shooting up in the parking lotQuote:
