How do i maximize business driving my 72 f-250? ( space issues)

hi i was wandering how do i maximize my camper specials space.....

I wanted to put up walls but that requires money for wood.... Most of my woods obtained thru old time break downs.... coaches, tvs, beds etc.

also how do i maximize output without increasing input in loads...

I find my loads to be consisting of small time stuff like tvs, mattresses, coach parts and appliances from apartments. whats my best bet to bring in 50 dollars daily?



There is a whole horizon i am missing as of lately... other yards look better and have better rates... but they are farther from home...

If you really can't afford lumber for sideboards on your F-250, get some old shipping pallets and break them down(just the plain ones, NOT the blue and orange painted ones). Use the 2x4 stringers in your stake pockets and the 1x4 slats for the sideboards themselves.

Then, break down those appliances you've been picking up. Pull out any electric motors you find, as well as wiring. Keep any aluminum, copper, brass, and stainless steel you find, actually any non-magnetic metals you find. Sort those metals into buckets, which I'm sure you can find a safe place to stash them until they're full. Break down your tv's for the copper inside (LOTS of guides for that on the forums here), the power cord, and low grade boards. When you break down tvs/appliances/couches, keep the screws and bolts in their own bucket, that goes as prepared steel instead of shred/tin.

When you break down your items like that, it's about the best way I know of to maximize your output without more $$ input. It -does- take up a lot more of your time though. If you save up enough copper/wire/aluminum/brass/whatever, it may make it worthwhile to drive the extra distance to the yard that's further away but pays more.

Another way to increase output is simply spend more time driving around looking for scrap, but that would obviously require more gas money input. If you have the gas money and a reasonably sized area that you can find scrap in nearby, I feel you'll make more money in the long run by finding more scrap, instead of breaking down less scrap to the tiniest degree you can.

I would advise you to break down at least a couple of everything you haul, like microwaves, ovens, vacuums, washing machines, etc. Once you've broken down a few, you'll know what you can pull out of them quickly to make the most money, so you can move on to your next find and make the best possible use of your time. I would strongly recommend you avoid AC units, fridges, freezers, water coolers, and anything else with refrigerant in it, unless you already have a yard lined up that will buy those items from you without them being drained. You don't want to mess around with draining freon without the proper training and equipment. It's highly illegal to do so, as well as dangerous, and bad for the environment.

I find quite a few appliances that are EZ fixes. Last dryer I picked up, I asked the lady what was wrong with it. She said it squeaks. So I figured it had to be the rollers. Got it home, took it apart and sure enough, rollers were shot. One had even seized and melted right off its shaft.

Parts and about an hour later I had a "like new" dryer.

Bonus was the $5 bill and $2.63 or whatever in change I found inside.

Anyways, after all that rambling my point is, if you know your way around a few tools, you can fix/sell for more than you can scrap them for.

Or sell as is. I sold a dead freezer and dead oven to a local appliance repair guy for more than I could scrap them for.

Nice truck. I had a 78 camper special. Would haul a house like it wasn't there. Also drank gas like no ones business. Not trying to be smart when I say this but if you want to maximize anything, start with your hauling rig. You need a more economical truck to haul with. Do you really need that rig? Can you get away with a smaller rig? Your current truck probably gets 7-10 mpg at best with a tail wind and down hill. Maybe it even has to use high test gas like mine did. Getting something in the 12-15 mpg range is going to put money in your pocket long term and consistantly. There is an upfront cost of course but your killing your profits running that truck.

I loved mine and wish I still had it. Was a great truck. Just not practical is today's gas price enviroment. If at all possible, change that part of your operation.

Here is the best way to max your profits and your space. Leave all those tv's,mattresses,couches and appliances behind and move into e-waste. Less space and more money. My .02

You want more output; with less input? Don't we all...

Perhaps you could go into the future where there are time machines; so you could travel back into time carrying with you the knowledge of how to build a time machine and travel back to modern time. You could preload your scrap after you have already unloaded it, thus eliminating ever having to really ever load it, decreasing your input and maximizing your output. I'm sure that's the only logical answer to your problem.

This is just like that time in Terminator2.

ya bash out the bottom there is a few little metal bans in there, or there are bed coaches which have more metal and is worth scrapping... 560 pounds of steel mixed in with some non ferrous will give me 20-50 bucks a day... There is metal in every area.

advertise ... schedule pickups ... throw some 2 4x8 boards in your bed and get one 4x8 board and cut it in half to cover your window // tailgate ... advertise ... schedule ... don't leave the house until you have a full load waiting or you get something better on fuel ...

ahhh you said it like a professional you know i do break down all my tv scrap as well. My Tv harvesting skills are really good i just need to find a method that is quicker at stripping off electrical tape bands that contain aluminum and copper. I mainly only cut the tape off of the thick ones so i can pass it as #2 copper wire instead of it passing as insulated wire.

Insulated wire is 85 cents to $1.00 a pound. IT dropped 25 cents in the last week meanwhile, #2 copper wire is $2.10-$2.65 a lb. so why make 85 cents to a dollar when i could make 2.10 to 2.65 for a few extra minutes.

I smash yokes, have a freezer buyer, and a well surrounding area that carries junk.... WA is full of apartments who cannot afford or do not want to pay for dump services. The thing is my living standards is "comprimised" by the area i live in so i cannot set up a bunch of barrels everywhere like we did down south. If i lived in a house i would be guaranteed money every day... Even if i had 6 dollars in my pocket for gas i come back with more then i had before as well with extra cash for the misses and a small hint for me. I like what you suggested, but microwaves? I usally just straight steel scrap stuff like that. You gave me some good hints though.

end part sounds like a good idea! those repair shops pay big bucks then jack the prices up
