Light copper wire. It should pay anywhere from $0.40 to $1.25-ish per pound, depending on what kind of telephone wire it is exactly, and more importantly depending on how your yard grades it.
I'm assuming your talking about the kind that goes into your home phone. I just got #2 insulated price ($1.05 a Lb) for it yesterday. You really need to provide more information because there is a big difference in the kind that goes to your home phone:

and the stuff that goes on telephone poles.
My yard pays most telephone wire as "communication" $1.00 per lb.
1000 ft means nothing in tearms of scrap, its the weight that matters.
If it's the stuff outdoors then it might also be the copper clad stuff.
