brass or copper valve? AND does anyone know what model this hard drive case is from?

I originally thought this was a brass valve, but after throwing it in a mix of CLR and water, it looks to be more of a copper color. Do they make these values in copper? Also what should I throw this in with? As for the hard drive case, there is no make/mode number listed anywhere on it, and I have never come across one of these. Any resale value for just the case? Thanks in advance for anyone who is able to help.

Red brass looks like copper sometimes.

Yeah I know that the hard drive itself is a seagate medalist, I was looking for info on the case itself. I know some of them from old vintage computers can fetch some decent money, but like I said in my original post, there are no ID marks on the case.

Those valves are brass, the clr might have changed the color of the brass.

hot swap internal out of a server

high pressure valves are generally not made of copper. they are usually steel or brass.. Also copper usually has a smooth finish. brass usually has a rough mold surface. copper is much softer then brass.

it definitely looked like brass, and I have never seen a copper valve before, but figured I would ask just to make sure. Thanks for the info J. I thought It might be from a server. I'll have to do some checking and see if I can find the server it came from, and if there is any resale value on it

+1 on the valve being brass. As posted above, most of those are steel or brass. They do make copper valves (like ball valves) which are very easy to tell they are copper. This is a good example of "red brass" which is brass that has copper in it which gives it a small red glow. It should bring more than regular "yellow brass".

I've never seen a copper valve (but hope to one day) most small valves i've had are brass or 'gun metal' . The larger valves can be steel and tend to have a brass ring on the 'gate' (the bit that moves to block the flow) to stop the valve rusting open/shut .
Most newer or high pressure ones tend to have steel 'handles/wheels' but still easy money:))

The case is a removeable IDE hard drive caddy. The U-shaped bracket fit in a 5 1/4" drive bay and the drive was placed into the drawer. That one has a key lock to prevent accidental removal of the drive while in use or just for security. I used to have a computer shop and sold one just like that for about $10.

I agree with pcecycle, it is only for removing your hd after you shut the computer down. I used to have one like that in my p1 I had built back in 95. its not for hot swap like a server drive. I tried to remove a secondary hd while running, just as a test, and it destoyed the boot sector.

I have just seen this copper prices have fallen to 6938.50 a ton.

The red brass, is that a good example of what I call bronze?

According to wikipedia

Bronze is typically 88% copper and 12% tin. Various other bronzes range from 90% copper down to mid-50s% copper, mixed with tin, lead, phosphorus, zinc, etc.

Red brass (also known as gunmetal) is 88% copper, 10% tin, and 2% zinc. It is a type of bronze. Again, some of the percentages can be a bit different.

Yellow brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. Different percentages give different strengths, malleabilities, and other properties.

All bronze and brass are copper alloys. The other metals alloyed with the copper give it unique names and properties.

From what I can see in the pictures, it looks like a red brass valve attached to a yellow brass fitting. The lighting could also be playing a factor.
