Whats the longest scrap run you have down without a shower/bath?

Mines two weeks.. Day in & day out.

I was doing the scrapping by myself & it was all wrecked cars in a remote area & I was only getting the wiring looms out. Just trying to get a good lump sum of $$$

Since it was so dirty & without anyone else around and I had to do a LOT of walking, I didn't have time to do 'other' things.
I also would have to use a friends shower as mine wasn't working...

I had to walk there, 1/2 hour, do the scrapping & amassing the looms in sacks, walk back home, 1/2 hour, sit & cut the plugs & coverings off. All dirty work, sitting in engine bays plucking the wire out.
Then take that single plastic coated wire 1/2 way back & hide it so I could burn it off later at night.

After a few days I started working at night & sleeping during the day.
So I decided to go for it & just changed clothes as I needed too. I started picking up the heater cores & any loose Ali as well.

The last night I burnt off the wire & took it home to clean it up. Got some sleep.

On the next/last day. I sold all the metal & went over to the friends place for a shower. Since he had only 'fire heated' hotwater (kitchen stove with a 'wetback' (all you Americans can have a larf at the wetback reference)) I also had to supply the wood & heat the water first.

So I get the fire going & he says "We have to go do some shopping at the Warehouse" (Kmart).
So I decide to go too while the waters heating up.

I'm in the que for the checkout & some Mother with 2 kids is behind me. I'm trying to stand still in the same spot & keep my elbows down to keep the stink contained....

And this kid starts whining, you know what its like. "Can I have this, then this then, why not this, if I can't have that then can I have this, why not, you are getting something, I want something too, yahhh yarrrhhh" snotty little ****.

So I take a big sideways step & the kid follows into where I was & he goes "Whaaat about this then, its only two doll .... clik clug"
as he chokes & suddenly forgets what he was saying, & why.........

So I get what I want & go to leave & as I leave I hear the mother say "Boy, he's got a phew hasn't he?"
& the Checkout operator says "Its not as bad as some of them...."

'Not as bad as some of them'... wow, now thats gotta be bad.

I picked up my dirty clothes after the shower & nearly dropped them. It smelt just like a pigsty.

It's the smell of money. :)

Nope/ I shower twice a day whether I need it or not!!!!!!

That's too funny eesakiwi. Reminds me of a time when we were picked up by a deuce and a half after an exercise. There wasn't enough room in the back for all of us so two of us got to ride up front. The driver just about gagged when we got in - rolled down his window and tried not to breathe. Wasn't much in the mood for conversation either.

I work in a field alone cutting up cars and what not. Just secured a deal to clean out 26 acres of scrap so it can be sold or farmed. Owner doesn't know what he wants to do. I work till my wife or little girl tell me I stink or smell like metal. Not gross just to ranged tired at the end of the day.

I have gone a few days But i don't like that as its to hard to clean the stink of metal off the skin. I also feel i have a unique issue as i live in the mountains and the water here are known for high IRON content. Well some times i hit the shower and it's like wow the IRON water hits the metal in my sweat and it's like some sorta metal celebration.So unless I use a body wash I stink of metal . Now another interesting thing is if I visit the Long Island family in laws that water cleans me and the metal smell is gone, go figure .I also have 30 years painting under my belt so I probably have other metallic toxins floating in my system.

I have a teenager like that. just can't figure out how a couch potato, can work up SUCH a STANK...playing VIDEO GAMES ;-)

One of the tell tale signs, that I have worked to late, and started to early, and AHEM...forgot...to hit the shower, is when one of the kids says...ummmm dad, ya smell like low grade boards. nuff said

I'll usually shower for holidays, special occasions or special requests. Otherwise, I'm just saving $$$ in a multitude of ways.

I sometimes think I am in some fashion, one of those extreme cheapskates, but in all reality I am just simple minded and try to live in a simplified enviroment.

I don't need or much want fancy commodities. (Unless they produce money)

But my current streak is 12 days.

12 days without a shower?? EEEwwwww

There is no way in Hell that i will go to bed after a long, hot, muggy, sweat bearing Florida day without a shower...specially, I am a female scrapper...we females have other cleaning issues to deal with beside stinkie arm pits...HELL NO!
I got to shower at least twice a day..first thing in the morning to get the engines up and running (tight muscles and achy backs) and at night after dumpster diving and taking apart motors and sorting out the metals. That's just me..my opinion.

In this line of "work" , hygiene is extremely important..almost like a sanitation hazard to the other occupants of the household. :)

I think people are too safe and cautious these days.

Just another note: One thing Always felt was important with dirty work . yes take a shower at-least once a day but I feel the natural oils that build up on skin over night offer good protection from the dust and grime. It's only logical scrubbing to clean in the morn only to face very dirty work that will permeate your skin if you strip off the oil mantle is logical, also a bit unshaven offers some protection

I only shower once a week at best during the winter. the summer on the other hand i keep a bar of soap in my truck and anytime i'm near the river i bring it along, which is quite often there is a lot of scrap down at the river and i fish to feed my family as well. im talking about mountain rivers not the ones by cities with their polluted waters that make fish sick.

What do I win?..........I ain't talkin about this til I know what the prize is.

Disclaimer i normally shower at about 7pm every day

but the longest was a 10 day straight escapade where i worked in a remote part of pennsylvania scrapping out a farm my travel trailer (pop-up) didn't have an addequate weater hookup and i used my drinking water for drinking but i made about $6k over the 10 days

It's really something to see people with showers choosing to stink(please don't invite me to dinner). I can go about 3 days till I can smell myself. Don't care how cold the water is coming out of the park privies, I will take the chance of the shrivel effect. Streams and some lakes are also good. I have even taken snow baths while in the northern states during winter.
