Differential Housing's Question

I've been scrapping a fair amount of Differential Housing's, Axel's, ring and pinion's and everything else related to rebuilding front and rear differential's in the past few months and I'm wondering if I'm getting what I should be or am I getting screwed?
Seams like every time I go to the scrap yard with a load the guys working there don't know what's what either.
What should they be considering those different components as? And yes there separated the housings are taken apart, the shafts, and gears are seperate and there is never anything else mixed in with the loads like misc.
Any input would be very appreciated.

you should be getting cast.

Depends on your yard. Around here I wouldn't get cast for that load because of too much steel in it. Shock brackets, axle tubes, etc. on those diff housings are steel. I would get #1 prepared for a load like that. If you have enough material, you might consider separating out your cast such as gears, diff carriers, and rotors/drums, and hauling those in on their own. That would depend on how much extra your yard pays for clean cast, and you have to decide if it's worth it.

if it a 9'' ford housing the race guys buy them for $100.00 each,ed.

I would get cast for all of it, even if it was in 1 piece.

Omg, I picked one up off the side of the road last summer and I had no idea what it even was, I busted my gut getting it into the bed of my truck. come to find out it was the rear dif.

I worked and worked on that thing and even had 3 neighbor guys try to help me bust the nuts loose an figure out how to get it apart after they were all out but no go and we were using some big tools and muscle. There must have been some magic pieces holding the two halves together I couldn't see inside.

Ended up getting part of the housing off as clean enough cast (10% dirty my main yard will still pay clean cast) and ended up throwing the rest into my steel pile. I almost cried. I don't know if I'd ever try another one again.

The ones I get are beyond rebuilding that's why there scrapped, everything that is good goes into rebuilds or gets sold as parts.
