I work at a chemical plant and we recieve lots of rail cars and tank wagons daily. Does anyone know for sure what the wire seals are made of? I read one thing that said the cable was steel but the locking device was aluminum. Can anyone verify this?

Seems to me a magnet could verify this.
Welcome to the forum Cole. I would assume that they are Al but its easy to check. Put a magnet see if it sticks, no stick then is it soft, yes, is it light in your hand, yes then I believe it is Al. I get paid $0.50 for clean Al here so it would take a lot to make a load. Do a lot of reading of the forums different sections, start with the sticky threads a the top. You will be much more able to recognize scraping opportunities.
Lastly please go to the introductions section and start a thread there introducing yourself to the members. Read some of the old ones you will understand. Mike
