Been reading for a bit and this site has already been so helpful. Today I found a record player free and decide to grab it to resell possibly scrap, was curious if anyone has torn one of these apart an what I might expect to find.

Scrap-wise I wouldn't think there would be much in it. A motor and a low grade board maybe? Best for resale if it is in good condition.
Yeah, low grade boards one small electric motor (more if it has a tape deck) some wires and a little bit of steel. I take them if I get them for free but would not pay for them.
the ones i have scrapped had an ali turntable under the felt or rubber mat.

If its a Ali platter & not rusty or corroded & still works I save them up & intend to sell them to a second hand record store that repairs & sells them.

Rega. - I found a Rega planier II in a 2nd hand store for NZ$100. Its sat there for a few months untill I found out its worth NZ$300 to sell to a dealer, then it sold before I went back, easy $200 ****!
- So even major 2nd hand dealers don't know what they are worth...............

I will say it again, even some major 2nd hand dealers do not know what they are worth. Check out the stylus on it too, they start at over $25 each & quickly go past $100.
This is something where you could make some good quick $$ when doing yard sales.
Back in the older day they used to call them "diamond" needles. I wonder if that has to do with the price? Diamonds aren't cheap.Quote:

I agree, back in the day the needles were the first thing to go bad. I don't know if you can even buy them now-a-days.
A lot of companies are still making them. There is still a huge trend for record players. Seems like a good amount of people like their sound better.Quote:
