I have opportunity to purchase this, but I have no idea what the value of this item is , any suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks....
This is a supercharger / blower from a locomotive / train diesel engine. It is a new old stock (NOS) part. Weights about 600 lbs and is all aluminum.
The rotors spin freely by hand. A quality control ink stamping is still visible on one of the rotors, showing an instepction date of October 1964.
I would go on a hot rod forum or a train forum, otherwise you are looking at about $100-$150 in dirty al.
an inspection date of 1964 would put it into the 50s or before. I'd be looking for refurbishers of antique locomotives
Definetly a resale or collectors item, but you could always dissemble it and pull the screws out, to get it down to clean aluminum. The screws are probably worth something to a collector also. Theres alot of people out there that collect supercharger screws, turbine blades and stuff like that and also the people that make it into art.

There should be a part/model number stamped on it somwhere. such as 4-71 and 6-71, 8-71 through 14-71
Anything that old will have zero value except to someone such as a train museum its basically scrap. That supercharger would never pass tier three or four emissions and probably came off a locomotive engine that is no longer used or even manufactured. Try this site and see what you come up with.

I do not scrap NOS items.
Take it to a speed shop and see if they are interested in some ART.
