I know this could vary but what is an average......I am going to look at gaylords full of boards and need to figure tare (I really don't trust the seller to much)LOL.........He claims to have already weighed em and I hate to have to take out 500lbs of boards (BUT I WILL)
Magic Mike, I drive a truck and do a lil' pallet recycling. I do know the average 4 way pallet to weigh roughly 43 lbs. We also use gaylords for shipping some air freight items. I believe they are roughly 13 lbs. Obviously, as you stated this could vary. I would add a little bit more weight for "chep" brand pallets, as they are made from 4x4's they're usually the blue painted ones. I would +/- 10% either way of say 55 lbs.
Also, if all else fails see if he has some unused skids/ gaylords. He should have no problem weighing them in front of you, if you're both true players.
According to this thread he's averaging about 14 lb to the box.

ok the numbers u guys are giving seem to be low......the last gaylord i bought with pallet weighed like 94lbs.......he is saying the tare on this pallet and gaylord is 80......thanks guys
never weighed a gaylord by itself but have picked up many empty & they had to go atleast 20-23lbs. be careful as i bought 2 gaylords last week full of mb & at the bottom of one was prob 30 lbs of satt boards & several mb with full metal backs [dell]. not to mention prob 5-6 pounds of wite lol.
I had to run out to the shop for more Collins mix so I weighed one of my gaylords. They are 45x37x41 tall double wall. It was 40.5 pounds.
80 lbs might be a good number..........I just hate to dump out a gaylord LOL

This particular one weighs 15 lbs.
I suggest you should do more research when you don't like an answer.
Then again uline is owned by witches and is known for false advertising and trickery.
Here is an idea call a scrap yard ask to talk to someone in the non ferrous department about pallets and skids and ask them how much on average do they happen to weight? They should be able to tell you an average. My guess would be 75 to 80 lbs. Most of the gaylords I have ever seen are thick walled. Heck most of them are from alan shulman or some company like that that deals in plastics and resins. That is when you know you have loaded way to many boxes with scrap when you can remember that.
Average weight of a single walled box and pallet is - 50 - 60 pound
Add 10 pounds for every extra wall on your gaylord. My scrap yard uses quadruple walled box's about 2-3 inc's thick and they weigh a good 40+ pounds
Thanks for all your replies.........You guys truly are a wealth of knowledge and seem to sincerly want to help!!!!!.....I am going now to look at it and as much as I hate to do it have the gaylord dumped out and re-weighed because the profit margin is so slim on just motherboards...........

I did some work at a yard this last summer and most pallets/w/triplesided gayloards were running 80 to 95 pounds each. We would weight them and paint the weight on the side.

kinda late reply on this one but i have a seller that his guys keep filling gaylords without taring them so I deduct 75 lbs. They use the flimsy pallets and tri-wall produce boxes so I usually come out ahead. 65 to 80 seems the norm for me except for the 4 way ones. Seems the produce gayloads run lighter than the industrial ones like from plastics manufacturers.
