Locomotive Electronics Scrap

I may have an opportunity to scrap the electronics out of a locomotive. Don't know much specifics yet.

Was wondering if anyone has done this before. Don't know what kind or how much in the way of electronics to expect to find.

I don't think there would be too many electronics other than radios and GPS'. Heck, I'm probably wrong though.

locomotives are almost all electric. They ave a diesel engine that runs a generator for the very large DC motors. Look for large contacts around the motors and lots of small DC relays.

What kind of locomotive is it GE or EMD? Which model? Is the 600kva wire attached still or is it cut out of the box? What is it that you are wanting to know about it?

What are they doing with the bases, motor, and trucks? I would be interested in buying that scrap?

OP- I am a representative at one of the world's leading service providers for repair/overhaul of locomotive, rail car, and transit equipment. This includes any component related to the locomotive- always consider the electronics in these have a more than scrap value! Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

PSP,

I don't know what kind/model it is yet.

A friend of mine is going to be taking out the batteries.

Someone else has dibs on the motors.

I was offered the opportunity to come along and see what electronics there may be. Just was wondering what I might find.

I don't know if that will include relays, switches, wiring, etc.

I'll post more details as I find them out.

We have not gone to look at them yet. Lots of irons in the fire right now.

Put those fires out and get out there. Locomotives are so lucrative to scrap its ridiculous.
