I saw months ago people talking about the DirectTV and Satellite Receiver boxes, but I cant remember what about them is working scrapping them.
For instance, is the motherboard actual motherboard grade, or would it be lower, and what are the cards generally worth?
They differ slightly Geo from the $2.50 to $4 a pound range depending on how populated they are. I can tell you one thing the drives out of the DVR's are awesome.
You know something, I never thought of a DVR having a hard drive in it, but that obviously makes perfect sense, since it is a recorder lolQuote:

Also, like a year or so ago, you or someone else had posted a board on here that came from the actual satellite dish. It looked to be like 90% gold content. Did anyone ever figure out a buyer for them or how they are classified?
I think Mechanic688 posted the satelite boards, not sure if anyone found a buyer for them.
I just took apart 300 receivers. About 30+ were DVR's with the hard drives. Some were 80 gig, but I got a bunch of SATA 160-500 gig drives. Also got 124 of the access cards with the small gold squares on them and just sold them to a buyer on here for $1 each. The power supply boards have some value. The main boards should be rated as mid-high grade, in my opinion. I have a few that look better than others and have a lot of steel on them with the tuners, but also have a lot of i/c's, pins, etc. My particular lot already had the power cords cut off, but they still turned out to be a goldmine for me as I only paid .18-.20 per lb. You will need a 4.5mm and a small torx security bit for some of them. Hope this helps.

my buyer paid $2.50 midgrade for some and some of the better ones with more gold on them and stuff like playstation and xbox boards i got $4.50 green motherboard price for them.
I have been getting motherboard price I believe as long as I rip off the small steel boxes on them. Only takes a second with a pair of channel-locks.
So basically if I payed a $1 a piece, I would definitely not loose money. Good to know.
Since $1 a piece is more than a scrapper would get at my yard, I see a new avenue!
get all you can at $1 each before they realize whats they are worth =)

The one I was referring to before, looked like it was 98% gold content. It literally almost looked like a bar of gold. No one on here knew what to classify it as. I just wish I remember who posted it.

Here's a look inside one I got that had three 'eyes' on it. The plating looks whiter than I'd expect from gold plating. Maybe just a trick of the light? The red epoxy/rubber will scrape out with an old flattip precision screwdriver, then I snapped off a small piece of the cast aluminum body (at arrow) to give me a better angle to pry the back face off. That revealed the populated side of the board, but prying the board itself off involved an extended argument with three spots of rubber glue that didn't want to release. Just be patient & work at it... it'll give eventually.
I got a single eye LNB yesterday... when I get it apart I'll post pics if they differ significantly from the one above.
