Found a local part time refiner near me!

So, out of pure dumb luck, I came across a gentlemen who lives near me, that is in the ewaste and refining business.

We got to talking over the last couple of days, and it is very interesting in what he does.

Great part about it all, is he is willing to work with me, help me learn that part of the business, etc. I told him that as grateful as I would be for all of that, and that I am interested in learning, etc, I would really love to have him simply refine the material for me, and him charge me his fee for doing the refining.

What made my mouth drop to the floor, is he sent me a picture of him holding 3 small gold coins....no bigger than quarter. He told me that was 3 ounces.

I told him that I definitely was not looking to get super rich or anything, but if I could cut out the middlemen on most if not all the material I get, then it would be a win/win for everyone. He gets his cut, I make a good profit, and then I am able to buy even more product, etc.

Right now, I am waiting on him to reply to me to let me know if I need to do anything at all to any of the material before bringing it over to him, and how much quantity he can take care of at one time.

Really looking forward to working with him, because once I figure a few things out, I can deal with everyone local for their material...scrappers, recycling companies, other ewaste recyclers, and so forth.

I hope no one thinks I am bragging or anything, because I am not meaning too. Just really happy, as I have been searching for someone local, that I can visit, build a good solid business relationship, and take my company to another level.

This wont mean though that I wont still sell some of my stuff to other buyers on here.

10 Toz's is going to be bigger than 3 quarters. My suggestion is to have him weigh it in front of you and see what the weight is and get an idea if he exagerates.

nice find geo. But be carefull. I would do a test run with him and make sure he is able to refine enuff of the material to make more than you can get than selling to a buyer.

Well I am just saying what it looked like to me. Until I have a real not to believe him, then all I can do is believe in what he says.

I definitely dont plan to jump into waters without making sure I wont die so to speak.

Yeah, that is what I plan to do. Do a test run to see if it would be worth the time and effort and go from there.

My apologies guys. I just re read what he said to me. The picture he showed me, was 3 ounces of Gold, not 10. He was just telling me what 10 ounces would be worth. 3 ounces is worth $5,250.90 which is not bad.

Yeah well to gt 3 OZ of gold from computer boards you better be ready to give him more than 1000 pounds.

that's seems like a lot for such a little amount of gold. makes you wonder how most of the buyers and locals stay in business

I might be wrong but I thing there are more pm's in e-waste than just the gold.

You are correct. Most of the value on some items is from things other than the gold

Well would a home refiner be able to effectively recover even 70% of the precious metals in mb's. I dont think so. Plus then you gotta give him a cut like 20% of whatever he gets. So your looking at 50% at best. Id give him a try but i think you would be better off sending to a licensed company that has all of the proper equipment and certifications to refine escrap. Honestly he just gonna dip the mbs in a solution and get some of the gold off. My question is what do the home refiners do with the boards after they have been dipped.

Buyer beware with part time home refiners. I've been reading up on the topic and there is a lot of loss of pm's when you are not set up with the proper equiptment as well as a safety hazard. Keep in mind that to get a decent return on recovered gold,silver, platinum or whatever it takes a pretty decent size of material. If you have that spare material on hand then it may be worth it to you. But if it's everything you have weigh out what it's worth as is compared to what it may be after its refined. I would also ask some more questions like how much material it's going to take to get x amount of pm's in return. As far as I can tell that's not an easy question for any refiner to answer since an assay has to be done on a test amount. And that assay will only be accurate if it's the same material that is to be refined. If I am off base with what I have stated, hopefully one of the buyers here who deals with the refiners can correct what I have stated. Like I said I only started to research the topic but that is what I believe is the way it goes.

Depending on the item there is. Gold, silver, and a few others.

In all honestly, I dont know what his setup is. We have only talked for roughly 2 days. All I know, is that he is willing to work with me, answer any questions, etc. He used to do this full time, but now he is some systems engineer, and travels a lot (whether local or abroad, I dont know).

So far, he hasnt given any reason to doubt that he is on the up and up. But as with anything, you have to be cautious and do due dilligence.

The only thing him and I might even be doing together is RAM and Ceramic CPUs. He told me in the last email that is primarily what he refines now as it has the most cost effective ratio, when you calculate your labor and chemicals cost.

So, we shall see.

Well if he likes that im sure he would like gold plated pins / metal. I have over 10 pounds in right now.

Gold plated pins im sure, but not the metal, I wouldnt think.
