how do i tell the different grades of circuit boards:o

i think the first rule of thumb, although not carved in stone, is if they're brown or green, the green being the higher grade

ok thanks i am new at this so i have a lot to learn the circuit boards i get out of radios and vhs recorders crt monitors those are all low grade am i right

Most would be low grade. The brown boards are low grade which are what I have found in vcr's, tv's,crt's, vcr's and the like.

If you read all the sticky threads that will help you get up to speed on what's what on ewaste and other scrap. Also take the time to read as much as you can stand in the electronics recycling forum. If you take these actions you will be far ahead of where you are now. Best of luck, Mike.

one thing you can also go by .. is if you can break da board it garbage...

second, If there is alot of IC's chips on them they are good stuff,

thrid if thier alot of transformer, its junk most of the time, but take pics and post if You've any question.

bnbsfsd, I have to disagree with you. First of all no board is junk, they all have value. I don't know what you are saying " if you can brake the board it's garbage" I can brake a mother board and it'll still be a mother board. If a board has a lot of transformers it's more than likely a power board at .50#.

I would have to agree with Happy^^

they don't have a power board grade here. If I look in and it isn't green, I use some slip-joint pliers to reach in and grab what transformers, heat sinks, and little copper windings are easily accessible, and then toss it, still attached to whatever it was in, into the shred

What he means is low grade boards are very brittle in comparison to, say a motherboard which doesn't just fall apart if you were to drop it on the ground a few times.

Thanks RCA, thats is exatly right, if You can use very little force to break a board its junk pile board, but if You've to use lot of force then its move up the ladder as far as grade.. I would LOVE to see A BROWN BOARD get HIGH GRADE PRICE.

I'm just getting my scrapping business started and I'm trying to learn what i can. I have several boards that have come from tvs, vcr, washing machines, ect. Where would be a good place to look to see what to pull off so i can increase my profit potential? Pics would be very helpful if possible. Then where is the best place to sell these components and boards?

Ive done brown boards at highgrade price. But those suckers were very nice. One of those once in a blue moon item

if the board is brown on one side and green on the other it is ultra high grade, keep an eye out for them =)

I was joking about the green/brown thing, most of them are low grade, but you have some of the exceptions. Actually chris what you have there is 2 high grade boards at approx $4 pound. And a low grade at 10 cents. The small high grade one, all of the traces under the green layer are also gold plated.

The mid sized board is plated under the green layer, the small board is not.
Not many of the business phones I work on are gold plated under the green plating. It seems to be more common with the small LCD boards although I have had some from the same model phone with and without this.
The board with no green coating is a keyboard from a Comdial telephone made in the USA in the 1980's
