Hey Bud can you spare a dime - I mean 2 nickels or 10 copper pennies

All years of Nickels - - 1982 pennies & under are worth saving . Well thats a good thing . Before you give up on the other metals used in dimes & quarters , Check out Canadian coins - with a magnet - yes it's a steel . At the very least American coins are non ferris. America has not completely given in .

What I am going to say now is just my opinion But what is money - Paper sure - coins sure - the here and now I know if I have metal I have money .What of the future if the government does devalue coins. As of now we can all wonder will copper be worth way more .as of now the Fed mint tries to use as little as possible thats the fact.
I just picked up 40 @ one once copper rounds $40 for curiosity They are a sight to behold. so what will future generations consider of the massive coinage being minted privately . They will be told it's not legal tender currency . Yet it might become very clear that it is what coins used to be - pure copper & if your inclined silver rounds are out there - they just might end up having some black market value . I conclude say what you want about the copper rounds sure they are really only worth CU at best spot. but they are real coins and any one with a understanding of truth will realize they are worth having.

I'm not sure what you are getting at.

Are you saying we should be hoarding coins?
Should we be investing in copper rounds?
Should our stockpile include all nickels and pre82 pennies, but not dimes?
Is our government out to get us? (rhetorical question)

First No harm casually saving your nickels & copper pennies as it is a sure thing those coins will always have value as a good quality non ferris metal. Time will come and you will be able to sell to some one for above face and you investment was face. Yes all nickels are good all years.

Second The devalued US coins are predominantly zinc, so for now sure we can spend, but think Or ask your self will US coins become the same metal as Canadian coins if so zinc coins will also be ok to have .90 LB for Zinc - If one day we are told the melt value of coins made of Zinc are higher then face then you can figure our money is really getting FUNNY (funny money) Inevitably don't you think governments want to make currency with the lowest cost metals .Foreign coins are no longer made with precious metals. The ... One-, two- and five-cent euro coins are composed of a steel core with copper coating.

Third The copper rounds that some us poke fun at (including me at one point) are one thing undeniably - they are .999 copper and you have the freedom to do as you please with them the truth in silver is real. the truth in copper will also be real.

Fourth Some day will coins be made of plastic ?? I bet someone is thinking of it. Pex pipe material converted to coinage

So nickles are still solid nicklIe. That makes sence to save them. I save all my change and keep the copper penneys seprate and now I'll start keepping my nickles seprate.

copper is copper and a touch of nickel it's clear the nickel is the last of the real money made by the mint. It might even be a pride thing that American's should still have the wealth to have some precious metal as coinage, the Canadian was pure nickel till 1981 Now steel. For me yes I am going to scramble to save some .05 but when you realize others have been doing the nickel hoard for years and there are people with 1000's of pounds - now they are in a good position and wishing for what IdahoScrapper just mentioned ,I hope the nickel stays as is, for a long time

I recently received a 1963 canadian dime in my change. Worth almost $2 in silver.

So will it ever get so messed up that even the current coins that are a Zinc base with a touch of Cu will be wanted ?? I will be disappointed the day USA coins are steel (ferris )
When you here zinc plated steel, then you have to admit they don't even want to keep non ferris Zinc in circulation. One can't go crazy about it, but lot's of US COIN's still have CU NI , it's just the melt value does not exceed face NOT YET !!

Well in my opinion the penny and nickle should be converted over to zinc plated steel and the dime and quarter should be zinc or zinc based alloy. This new round of QE and more rounds to come over the next 4 years will push metal prices higher due to inflation which will force the government to address the issue. I think they will keep kicking the can down the road till copper hits $5 and nickel hits $10.

If mints use steel well it will be easy to implement Gresham's law with a magnet, So if QE is implemented more and more I guess why not use steel coins and paper money as the only new currency to keep cost down.

At over 5x current spot price....no they really are not worth having at this time and they are far from real coins. You want to be in copper.....there are better ways than the over priced rounds. Don't get sucked in by the hype and how pretty they are. Spot is spot and the more you pay premimum wise...the longer it takes to break even let alone profit.

I wonder if those coin for cash machines seperate anything silver from the rest of the coins they get.

A 100% Nickel coin would damage the dies used to make them, hard metal.

Not sure why you want to hoard copper pennies anyway, I hate taking $20 worth to the bank to get rid of them let alone trying to move $5000 worth during the "end days".

Why hoard copper pennies, hmmm guess its because i get them for free in my pocket change so i dont have to pay anything for them, its like free copper. I like to keep my metals for my retirement among other things. But i am prepared for that end of days sceneario also as a bonus. I have to ask you why you prefer worthless dollars over copper since you disagree with hoarding metals? When the carp hits the fan what are you gonna do with your worthless paper other than using it as t.p.?

What I meant was silver and gold take up less space and is worth more then copper. You can always sell the copper and buy silver I guess. I have a big bag of wheet cents in a drawer just because I used to collect coins, but its not worth bothering to sell.

The day a dollar bill is worthless (and I don't mean by inflation, just that nobody would take it for anything) you can kiss your hoard of copper goodbye because the only thing that would matter would be food, water, fuel, and ammunition. I don't see that day coming in my lifetime, and if it did 95% of the people would be dead in a year (because 95% of the population does nothing of actual use for the new stone age).

There is a sad truth to what you say : Can I add something as i was speaking to a milk farmer the other day and he was going negative about the future economy & I told him : The real truth of the economy is You ( the farmer ) with out you getting us milk meat crops what do we have . the government can print all the money they want - they can convinced us of what metals have value . BUT with out food & water there is no economy - for politicians and bean counters to create the world as we know it, with out food & water what can you do with your gold .
