I have seen mentioned several times about telcom boards. I was hoping someone could define that for me. What is a telcom board? Router? Modem? "PBX" phone? house phone? Fax? Just the "switch" at the phone company? CB? Radio scanner? Repeater? Walkie talkie?
As best as I can tell - they are boards that are primarily just rows if IC chips. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong though...
boards out of phone servers. Looks like a server tower but controls phones for a company. Many have gold fingers and backplanes. Search ebay for "phone server" to what they look like.
some boards have alot of ICs and some just a little. Just different grades.
Here is a couple pictures of some telecom boards (mixed with other kinds), Due to their large IC population they are considered high-grade.

These boards say, "IST Northern Telecom" on them, I have a bunch a boards from that company and they have varying quality.

There is a broad range of telecom boards. Hope this helps.
HDI High Density Interconnect boards with high layer count.
Lots of IC's and a lot of copper layers to connect all of it.
Low grade boards are say 2-4 layers of copper with hardly any parts. High grade is no spare room for parts and up to 18 layers of copper in a board 0.062 thick with immersion gold plating over nickel over copper with high speed in mind.

I see some help with pictures from nice people, but unless I missed it this mans question hasn't ben answered, and im wondering if someone could say yes or no to each item he asked about cause im also not familiar with those either.
