im not looking at gold am i?

im sure some of you have seen the back of a door switch on cars and or trucks. some of the switches have copper(i think:confused: ) but this jetta switch was gold. i know the different between copper and gold and it was gold color.

so am i right or do you know for sure its not... i'll post picture monday. :(

i bet brass or gold plated brass at best, ive never seen gold in cars other than gold plated body parts/trim

If they had a heavy voltage/amperage draw then they might put gold contacts in there, but I'm just guessing.

Acid test to be sure. I was a mech for most of my life till my body gave up the ghost. For some reason I can handle scrapping fine, but being on my feet 8 hours a day I cant..lol. But the only gold I ever saw in a car was the computer board inside of the ecm and tcm.

Supposedly I heard at IATN that new CAN systems in the newer rides have gold connectors at the computers on both the wire and computer side. Gold must plug into gold. I never confirmed that rumor though.

Cant say for sure i dont see alot of VWs in the shop but i am seeing more and more gold plated pins in newer cars, i have to assume that it is because everything on the car is either and input or output device for a control module. most switches just go to one computer or another instead of directly controling anything.

Any connectors related to the airbag will be gold plated...that includes airbag connectors, clockspring connectors, airbag control module pins, etc. Airbag sensors also will have gold plated connectors. I've never heard of or seen a door lock switch that was gold plated, but I won't condemn the idea either.
