Battery Jump Packs
I received a call today about taking some Battery Jump Packs (The portable pack to jump start cars).
They do factory warranty work. If they can get fixed they are, if not junk pile they go. All the batterys are removed.
They have built in Air Compressor, USB port & Charger.
They said they have pallets of them and get more all the time.
What do you think
Will I put in more hours tearing apart then it is worth?
What to do with all the plastic?
Also current pallets have all Battery leads cut off. They will leave them on in future if I will take them.

if they're free... ask them for the first pallet. process it, and decide for yourself. dont commit to all of them, but let them know if it works out you'd be prepared to take all of them, and even contract with them for removal and disposal.
is it one of these?

or a flat one like this?

I was told the brand but do not feel I should post it here.
It is more like the second picture retails for $95.
What would you scrap the Compressor as?
I might see if I can get 1 and see what is inside.
-
Yeah. If you could get one.. that would be the best move. I would scrap the compressor as a sealed unit, or see if someone will buy them as cores.

I think each one will have small electric motor, small amount of brass on jumper ends, insulated wire, painted alum plate where air guage is and a few steel screws. Now if you could turn them all in as is for shread price (like a vacume cleaner) depending on the weight of one, that may be the way to go.
-
he said the battery leads (i think that means cables) are missing from the first batch. those are nice gauge. they would add significantly to the value, and if taking the first couple pallets means you have access to better product in the future, i think it would be worth a little effort to establish a relationship with the company.
also let them know what else you'd be interested in, and even willing to pay for some types of scrap. they may not know what you're willing to work with

If I remember right the compressor or air pump is cast aluminum. I just put them in the dirty cast aluminum pile. Insulated wire inside, if they had the cables on them and you didn't have to drive to far it would be worth it. Like the above post try to get a few and take them apart and see what you think.

The batteries for these jump packs are almost 2/3rd's the price of the units...but if they are only $95 new they are like mid-grade as far as quality goes. Take out the compressors and batteries and stock pile them until you get them all done and or wait for the price to go up. If the batteries and leads are gone, don't buy them at all if they want to give them to you that's fine. There's no money there for just the compressors.
Here is the one I have
Jump Start Pack/Compressor | AW Direct
New $275 Unit
Replacement Batteries are $170
The cables for the units you have may be 8,6 or 4 gauge.

Ok went out and talked to the owner of the company. Got a different story from him. They get more than one model. Some are cheap with just battery and cables, some have the compressor and lights, some of the nicer larger ones too. They do not even try to fix them. They usually have bad batterys so not cost effective to fix.
They did go through a phase of pulling cables and batterys from 1 or 2 pallets. They have more pallets with everything still on them.
They showed me the ones that they had apart and there is a small charger(Basicly cell phone charger). Two small low grade PCB 1 is about 1.5" x 6" other is about .25" x 1" avery small electric motor bolted to a air pump. The pump is alum but very samll and would have to unbolt from motor. A few short sections of insulated wire.
I told them the ones without batterys and cables are worthless and I would charge if that is all they gave me. (they currently can not get rid of them becuase of the PCB inside)
The owner said it was not worth their time to do anything to them he would like to make a deal for the complete units. The problem is he said he gets $7 for the one size battery. It weights about 13# and at $0.28 so $3.64. His place deals in alot of batteries and they send them in by the truck load. So maybe he does get that much.
Then there is the cables anywhere from 1 - 4 ft Maybe #8 or 6 insulated. Then some have the airpump and PCB and some dont.
I need to get back to him tomorrow. I think I will say I will take them but not really wanting to pay anything for them. I have to transport them and deal with the disposal of the plastic.
They did give me 2 units with batteries and cables so at least I paid for my gas to run out there :)
