Anyone know the value per # of these processors? I've found some info on here about sun pinless processors, but these have pins. They look a lot like the AMD metal caps but I honestly have no idea if they are the same value. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

I just sold a few pounds of these to boardsort and was paid $37 a pound
I think maybe you should check around, maybe some of the buyers on the board here
most all (i'm sure Easy, Ewasted, and dang! who is that Chicago outfit? they've got great prices) Arcoa, will give you an estimate(and maybe a solid price) from a photo

hmmmm... one of the buyers came back with $8 per # but that seems really low since these have pins... AZ was it the same exact processor and recently that you sold to boardsoart?
Yes they were the exact same processor. I also had some that were pinless and they paid the same for those as well. I would email Chris over at boardsort. He will take good care of you!Quote:

Gentlemen, I was not trying to start a fight here, that's why I intentionally didn't list which buyer gave me pricing. I'll contact boarsort and see what he offers for them. Another buyer on here told me if I pop off the heatsink they will pay $40 per #. I'm not trying to pit one buyer against another, I just have to pay my bills and that means for the most part, going where top dollar is. I believe it's my responsibility as the seller to do legwork and smart selling.
I do prefer to sell to those on this forum though whenever possible and Ewasted has been very good to me in the past. With other buyers seeming to "specialize" in some types of ewaste now I think I may have to start branching out in what I sell to whom to maximize my profits.

I am just sharing my experience. I emailed for a quote with a full description and pictures attached. I was told the ceramic sun chips pay the same as Pentium/mac ceramic chips. I am just trying to help out another scrapper. Good luck scrappinred!Quote:

I was quoted $28/lb for them as is (with heatsink) by one of the buyers on here, same price as AMD with heatsink. I ended up selling 4.25 lbs on ebay for about $180.

You are right about the heat spreader, pop that off and they instantly become worth more. I know I saw this in a lot of posts, but if you do a little work it adds value to the material, and refiners are a lot happier because they can spend their time refining, and not scrapping. We need scrappers who are knowledgeable and willing to put work into their material so that we can pay more, process more and make a living. If we have to scrap, then we are not spending our time refining, it's the refining that makes us money.Quote:

Heat guns work great. I hope you don't take offense but there is a better way to do it, and I'll explain why.
The glue and braze used on Sun Sparks is nasty stuff to burn, and breath.
A heat gun vaporizes some of this material, so doing it in a well ventilated area would be highly advisable, but you can also use a fume extractor, the type that are used in soldering stations, which would do the same thing. When you heat up the braze, it melts and releases the heat spreader because you vaporizing some of the chemicals that allow the glue to work, you are also vaporizing small amounts of lead which you then run the risk of breathing. With a heat gun you have to apply heat for a long time, usually, before the heat spreader is released.
If you use a small torch, like the type sold in most hardware stores that screws on to the top of the small tank they use, you might be better served. You still have to do this in a well ventilated area, but with no chord to concern yourself about it works out better. Also, the open flame acts in a similar way as an after burner does in an incinerator. You are burning off most of the bad fumes/gases as you heat the heat spreader up hot enough to release from the CPU. Not only that, but it's much faster. It takes about 10 seconds of direct flame, which means less fumes, and less work/time. Hold the CPU with a pair of pliers, I would suggest something with a long handle so it doesn't heat up. Wear leather gloves because sometimes the braze splatters and will burn you quick, eye goggles, and an apron. Hold the CPU with the pliers, apply the torch flame to the corners of the heat sink and move around the outside, not the center. If you heat the center before the sides the entire thing sometimes will pop off and fly across the room. The sides is where it is brazed. Then lightly tap it against cement or maybe a cast iron pan, I used a length of railroad track.
In any case, removing the kovar heat spreader is smart smart smart and will allow you to command a higher price than otherwise.
