I was bored, so I decided to bust open some small electric motors I had laying around. I don't have a Vice, so I had to use my hands. So I bust out the Ice Pick and a hammer and go at it. As I try to get the "axle" out of the center, I take a tap and the Ice Pick misses and decides to go right into my hand. Nice. I only got a small puncture, but that means no more small motor destruction for me. :(
Wow that is dangerous!! When your breaking stuff down think of the worst thing that can happen (doesn't mean it will) and if your can't picture a good outcome then change the way you do it or just sell it whole. Could have been worse.Quote:

I've decided if a motor takes too long, it's not worth it, into the motor pile. Today I was tinkering with a ceiling fan motor, that came from a house fire, and had all but a top nut that should unbolt the whole shaft, but I'd noticed melted Al from the lower vent holes, and decided it was likely Al windings anyway, so tossed it in the pile, instead of going for a socket to fit
So do y'all toss aluminum motors into shred, or motor pile. I probably answered my own question, but the yard marked the motor from a garbage disposal as "FE Shredable."
thus far I've put Al ones with the others, never been faced with that, but tell ya what, I've also torn down AL ones, and they certainly aren't worth messin withQuote:

Copper motors seem to be used in applications that require high speed motors
