I picked up @ a yard sale a sledge 8lb 30 inch at the base total crack to a point it was separate . Just for curiosity took some old brown color wood glue did it up and clamped it . After drying I have been using it strong and it is still working,to day I took off a motor from a washer 6 hits the pulley let loose and the motor plopped off . What i am seeing is i might have to put a metal shim to tighten head
When they say wood glue is stronger then the wood they are not kidding

It's all about having the right tools. Work smarter not harder is what I say.

If the head is loose soak it in a bucket of water the wood will swell thereby tightening the head
