What can I expect for a scrap Toyota Camry?

One of my mother's coworkers has an old Toyota Camry (not sure of the year just yet) that's about to give up the ghost and my mother asked me if I would be interested in taking it in for scrap. Of course I'm gonna give the guy money for it when he hands me the title, but how much can I expect for a car like that give or take? This would be the first time ever scrapping a car for me, so I just want a rough idea of how much I can expect so I can give the guy money while at the same time turning a profit out of the deal.

I'd buy it with the title then part it out if you got the extra space for it. You'll make alot more that way...But that takes time and effort.

Unfortunately space IS a problem.

Got a little more info. 1990 Camry, roughly how much does one of those weigh so I can see what I'm working with?

1990 Camry - 2690 lbs.

I went to lot of effort to find that - about five seconds to Google "weight of 1990 Camry".

Ahh, I should have done that before :o. Now I just gotta see what some of the yards around me pay and that'll make it that much easier to determine what I'll get for it.

I know you said space is an issue, but if nothing else gets pulled be sure to pull the cat. In my experience that is the single most valuable part on a scrap vehicle.

If you want to know what other goodies to pull that can be scrapped for more than tin prices...well the forum has the answers.

Junk cars is what I do, and here is how I do it

Scale right now at my guy is $130.00 a ton or .065 a pound = $175.00
You don't have to drain anything or do anything to it. He does not care what you pull from it

As already mentioned, Pull the cat and sell that separate
I drain the antifreeze and pull the radiator and AC condenser and sell separate >> Both Aluminum
Sometimes they have Aluminum rims/wheels >> Pull and sell separate
I pull the Battery and sell that separate
Pull alternator and sell that separate
Follow the wire run and pull /cut out as much as you can. My place takes with all connections, plugs and looms

Not worth doing if you are only going to be doing one car
BUT adds up when you bring in 2 >> 55 gallon drums filled with alternators, 3 filled with the wire, 20 batteries , and 20 aluminum Radiators and ac condensers
30 - 50 aluminum wheels

Check eBay and see what has been selling
I pull the easy to pull, easy to store, and easy to ship items
Headlight assemblies
Tail Light Lamp assemblies
Side mirrors
window motors
Master switch unit in drivers door

or ask 500 on craigslist as not running with title. Lots of shadetree mechanics out there willing to fix a good import.

Some places around me will dock the value if you pull the cat, radiators, etc. though. Gotta find a place that WON'T...
