Know your fluff

I heard from a sanitation man FLUFF is all the left over unusable mix of glass plastic foam etc from the metal industry from cars and other appliances after shredder .
So i used a spread sheet to keep track of how much non metal actually i might be including with my mix by estimating the weight of items i see are true metal . Metal items that could have foam plastic glass i now can see how much i might give per order

I can see how to lower the FLUFF in my mix and see really how if your not careful you can accidentally get paid for to much FLUFF
some yards are also more forgiving so i can balance out according to yards preference.

i would certainly not want to get accidently paid for too much fluff

A comparison of 2 yards one is a net other a gross now if i see how to not accidentally give to much fluff and be a Tweaking Fluffier - As you see first i know the loaded weight . Then i only add up the true metal . The fluff with simple subtraction is then isolated and reduced according to any yards rules and wishes . By me a yard wants very little - foam - plastic or any non metal .They watch very much so . Another yards I know gladly takes vacuums chairs with some wood
tires with wheels - I compare net and gross. This load almost had to much FLUFF I reduced by taking apart some of the items to avoid accidentally getting paid for (well you know the word)

Are you saying the Fluff yard pays less expecting fluff? Therefore you take the loads containing such material to them.

When you shred is cleaner you take it to the yard that pays more but expects better quality.

My yard wants most stuff off but doesn't pay any different for Fluff removed vs. Fluff left on.

This post is a joke right. A yard pays you for having not enough iron content in the material you are selling to them. They are already making a killing off you being a peddler and not an industrial customer. Further more if they are shipping it off to another shredder and not even shredding the material in house why would they care about how much plastic or foam is in the load it doesn't weight anything compared to the amount of steel in it. Put it in with the rest of the shredd and ship it off. Why do you think shredd is the lowest grade material you can sell to a yard besides turnings and borings.

But why would you do more work to make less money? It's not like your filling appliances with gravel. Are you? You sound like a mechanic that fixes someones car and then goes ahead and washes and details it for free.

my yard does not care, as long as it does not have any wood. mostly plastic with a small electric motor is ok, like the small kids ride on cars and vaccums.

I think you're better off finding more material versus spending time removing the "fluff".
